Air Pollution.

Year 10 Project work.

Aim

This research work aims to increase awareness and understanding of the sources and effects of the main
air pollutants and to identify possible responses to improve air quality.

Skills

Students will evolve an awareness of the current environmental issue of air quality in urban areas.
Students will also research an up to date appreciation of air quality in the particular areas, and the
importance of the contribution of vehicular pollution in particular as a major source of urban air
pollution today. Students will also increase their knowledge and understanding of the effects of urban
air pollution and gain an insight into the responses that can be taken to improve the quality of air.

Project deadline is 03.05.2021

1. Research of the air pollution

2. Fieldwork-to investigate the air pollution in the area
3. Final Product – video presentation (including the research of the problem+ evidences
+consequences+ possible solutions)

Research of the air pollution

Below are the detailed steps of the research:

Student needs to research and find the information about topic. Student needs to cover the questions
below by giving adequate information and supportive visual pieces of evidence. (The analyzing with
graphs, diagrams, pictures etc. are much preferable.)

1. Why is the air so important? (Give at least 3 examples to explain the importance of the air.)
2. Natural components of the air (chemical, physical)
3. Investigate the natural and human-based processes cause the global air pollution (List at list 4
causes.)
4. Investigate and share information about the riskiest areas due to the air pollution in the world.
Investigate the major causes of the air pollution in your region. Show the evidences (photos, videos
etc.)
5. Explain the negative impacts of air pollution on nature and human health
6. Solutions to air pollution: how to improve air quality? (Give at least 4 possible solutions.)
2. It is not allowed to copy& paste from the Internet, students must understand and to learn the
background of the problem while they are researching, it will help them to express the ideas in their
own words.

3. The purpose of the project works is to uncover the student’s research and investigation, narrator and
presenter skills, to let the student learn the problems and find the correlation between causes and
consequences of the problems, to encourage him/her to put forward their solutions.

4. The content of the research should be summed up in the presentation (no more than 10 slides
excluding title, reference pages.)

 Title (the name of the project, the author/s, class)

 The content of the project work should be arranged in order and visual materials (photos,
diagrams, schemes could be included).
 The bibliography/references -could be the sites, books, encyclopedias etc. All major references
should be mentioned at the end of the doc.
 Any extra designs, illustrations, fun facts etc. Are allowed, it is up to student’s creativity. (not
formally demanded)
  Student’s submission should be original, the high plagiarism rate will be penalized by decreasing
grade.

Fieldwork- to investigate the air pollution in the area

The second step of Air pollution project is dedicated to the practicing in the field.

Here the student will investigate the sources of the air pollution in his/her neighborhood (The evidences
could be collected/recorded in living areas, parks, streets, buildings, industrial areas, houses etc.)

Student needs to take a video record of his/her investigation process as an evidence for air pollution.
(The duration should be no more than 3 minutes. Student should be seen in the video giving the
evidences). The student should provide at least 3 evidences for air pollution in neighborhood.

Final Product-Video Presentation

In the third step of the project student submits the processed version of the research –Video
presentation which includes the student’s academic research of air pollution + the video evidences.

By demonstrating and orally explaining the presentation student will be covering following points and
the presentation should be recorded for submitting as a final product. (The duration of the video
presentation should be planned for 7-10 min at most).

Show the evidences (photos, videos etc.)
5. Explain the negative impacts of air pollution on nature and human health
6. Solutions to air pollution: how to improve air quality? (Give at least 4 possible solutions.)
The video recorded by the student in the field should be posted in the slide (or the link of the video could
be shared in the slide)

The final version of the project must be submitted via Blackboard- Test Centre 2021- Air pollution.

Deadline: 03/05/2021
