PROBLEM-BASED LEARNING

a. Title Measures of Central Tendency

b. Grade Level/Subject Grade 7 Mathematics
c. Problem-Based Learning A teaching method in which complex real-world problems
are used as the vehicle to promote student learning of
concepts and principles as opposed to direct presentation of
facts and concepts.
d. Content Standard Demonstrates understanding of key concepts, uses and
importance of Statistics, data collection/gathering and the
different forms of data representation, measures of central
tendency, measures of variability, and probability
e. Performance Standard The learner is able to collect and organize data
systematically and compute accurately measures of central
tendency and variability and apply these appropriately in
data analysis and interpretation in different fields
f. Learning Competencies - Illustrates the measures of central tendency (mean,
median, and mode) of a statistical data.
- Calculates the measures of central tendency of
ungrouped and grouped data.
g. Learning Objective - Define the meaning of Measures of central
tendency through interactive brainstorming using
menti.com
- Use jam board to list and solve data to compute for
the mean median and mode.
- Assess students learning by letting them answer an
activity in quizziz.com

h. Pre-Requisite Skills - Basic understanding of the concepts of mean,

median, mode, calculating grouped and ungrouped
data.
- Basic problem solving skills
- Skills in fundamental operations
- Skills in arranging numbers from least to greatest
i. Materials Needed a. Technology-Hardware Required
- Desktop or Laptop
- Cellphone
- Internet Connection

b. Audio-Visual
- PowerPoint Presentation via Zoom or
Google Meet

- Teaching- Menti.com
- Assessment – Quizziz.com

d. Technology-Software Required
- Menti.com
- Quizziz.com
- Jam board
- PowerPoint Presentation

Procedures:

1. Provide a brief introduction to the lesson. The teacher will be the one who needs to act as
the facilitator.
2. Develop an interactive discussion and situational questions using the audio-visual
presentation:
- Set up the mood for the lesson
- Administer a formative assessment
- Motivates the students to engage with the lesson
3. The teacher will be the one to ask the ideas of the students about the Measures of Central
Tendency using Menti.com
Guide Question:
- List all the words that are associated with Measures of Central Tendency.
Type your answer in the menti.com
4. Through the implementation of menti.com the teacher will be the one to discuss the
words from the student’s answers to come up with the proper idea/definition of Measures
of Central Tendency.
5. Let the students be engaged in computing the mean, median, and mode of grouped and
ungrouped data using Jam board. The students should work collaboratively.
Characteristics:
- Use effective guiding questions based on the task
- Interaction between students
- Increasing level of students participation

Teacher will:
- Facilitate the learners to figure out the tasks, problems, and activities
themselves, instead of the teacher and text presenting already-worked-out
examples.
- Be prepared to help the students and groups with the troubles that they might
encounter in solving some data.
- Be prepared to carry out mini-summaries as needed.
- Evaluate the logical and procedural understanding of the students in the lesson
by giving them formative assessment.

6. The teacher will be able to ask about errors, misconceptions, or potential

trouble spots to provide an appropriate action to resolve the problem.

7. The teacher will ask for the key ideas in computing for the mean, median, and
mode of the given data to ensure that all students recognize and understand the
key ideas and importance of the lesson.

Assessment:

- Make a reflection about the significance of using mean, median and mode in
real life situations to be submitted online (via Messenger and Gmail)

Procedures:

1. The teacher will group the students into 5 groups. Each group will have 8 members each.
2. The students will need to gather data based on the instruction of the teacher. After
collecting data they will need to make a table using MS Excel to find the mean, median
and mode of the data they gathered.
3. The teacher will give link of the resources they need to find enough information to put in
their PowerPoint presentation.
