Tuesday
Warm up: Ask students what would you do if won the lottery? Where would you go if you were rich? Then ask
students copy the next note about Second Conditional in their notebooks.
The Second Conditional
The second conditional uses the past simple after if, then 'would' and the infinitive:

if + past simple, ...would + infinitive

(We can use 'were' instead of 'was' with 'I' and 'he/she/it'. This is mostly done in formal writing).

It has two uses.

First, we can use it to talk about things in the future that are probably not going to be true. Maybe I'm imagining some dream for
example.

If I won the lottery, I would buy a big house.(I probably won't win the lottery)
If I met the Queen of England, I would say hello.
She would travel all over the world if she were rich.
She would pass the exam if she ever studied.(She never studies, so this won't happen)

While: Ask students answer the next exercises in their notebooks.

1. If I _________________ (be) you, I _________________ (get) a new job.

CINCO DE MAYO

Pre: Encourage students to see the next video about CINCO DE MAYO and then discuss about the moral of the video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8Jj_KhAiGU

While: On a power point presentation show the next information and encourage student’s to read it and discuss the main
ideas.

HISTORY OF CINCO DE MAYO

Let’s start by clearing the biggest misconception: No, Cinco de Mayo is not the Mexican
Independence Day. But, that does not mean it’s less important or notable than it actually is, for the
history behind it dawns on the importance of the landscape of North America as a whole.
An economically-struggling Mexico was intervened by the French for the second time, who had the
hopes to gain control of the Latin American country under the rule of Napoleon III. The French
General, Charles de Lorencez, directed his army towards the capital of Mexico City, with the intent to
overthrow the president of Mexico, Benito Juarez.
But things didn’t go as planned, as they encountered heavy resistance, culminating at the Battle of
Puebla on May 5, 1862. Even if their forces had half the numbers of their opponents, the Mexican
Army, led by Ignacio Zaragoza, managed to successfully win over the French army at Puebla, a city
just 70 miles from Mexico City. Four days later, on May 9, Juárez declared Cinco de Mayo a national
holiday.
While the battle in itself was not a major strategic win, and the French took control of Mexico in 1864,
it served to lift the spirits of resistance forces, and helped them to gain an alliance with the Americans
to successfully make Napoleon’s forces withdraw. Since it is believed the French would have likely
aided the Confederacy at the Civil War, Mexico’s resistance likely changed the history of the United
States.
Pro-Union Mexican citizens in the state of California heavily celebrated the victory at the Battle of
Puebla viewing it as a victory for the Union’s cause, later formalizing and spreading the annual
celebrations across all of California, and Mexican-Americans all around.

HOW TO CELEBRATE CINCO DE MAYO 2021

1. Learn about Mexico
Discover the beginnings of Cinco de Mayo and expand your appreciation of our southern
neighbors. Take the time to learn more about how their history has helped shape our own and
the ways in which they have contributed to U.S. culture.
2. Dance to Mexican music
Try learning traditional Mexican dances such as Jarabe Tapatío. You can take a class or
simply give it a go in your own home. Not only is it fun, but the exercise will help you feel less
guilty when you chow down on traditional food later! The bigger the group, the bigger the fun,
so invite your friends and have a little dance party!
3. Cook an authentic meal
One of the best ways to get to know a culture is through food. So why not try creating a
traditional Mexican meal at home, either alone or with friends? Skip the standards — you can
have those anytime. Instead of guacamole or tacos, try making pozole or tamales. You’ll love
making it as much as eating it.

Post: Encourage Students to make a mind map about 5 de Mayo, including the previous information
Homework: solve the worksheet provided by the teacher about 5 de
Mayo
Materiales para el día jueves: 4 imágenes sobre la batalla de puebla (5
de Mayo), para el día viernes: 1 hoja rosa, 1 hoja roja, 1 hoja de opalina,
1 sobresito de diamantina roja.
Friday

Mother’s Day
Pre: Encourage students to see the next video about mothers day and then discuss about the moral of the video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVzWGtzjLj0
While: On a power point presentation show the next information and encourage student’s to read it and discuss the main
ideas.

MOTHER'S DAY ACTIVITIES

1. Togetherness
Ever notice how your mom always says she doesn’t want expensive presents? Believe her.
She just wants to spend some time with you (yes, it’s a cliché, but that doesn’t make it any less
true). So, take a hike or plan a picnic. Help her in the garden or hit the town. Even if it’s no
more creative than a big bowl of popcorn and a “GOT” marathon, Mom will enjoy the QT more
than any tangible present.
2. Treat her
Take her out. Find an amazing restaurant and treat Mom to a mimosa or three. Planning on
taking her out later? The sky’s the limit for lunch and dinner options. Plan ahead. Make a
reservation. Remember, you're an adult now.
3. Listen up
Listening is an act of love. So, with that in mind, take a break from talking about your own
problems and listen to her talk about her life, her dreams, or her favorite memories. If you have
siblings, get the family together and tell stories!

WHY WE LOVE MOTHER'S DAY

1. Moms!
Like so many constants in our lives, we sometimes take our parents for granted. After all, we’ve
known them all our lives. Yes, we know that Mother’s Day can feel somewhat commercialized
and obligatory, but if you can think outside the checkbook and do something truly special for (or
better yet, with) your mother, then why not do it?
2. She can do it all
For the first couple of years, your mom fed you, protected you, and read “Goodnight Moon” to
you until she knew it by heart. After that came the lessons in how to share, to try new foods,
and to not wallop your brother over the head with a metal Tonka truck. She encouraged your
curiosity, indulged your interests, helped form your sense of humor. In other words, she made
you, well, you.
3. An inclusive celebration
Maybe the woman who gave birth to you isn’t with you now —but it’s a good bet that there are
other strong, influential women in your life. Mother figures come in many shapes, so don’t take
Mother’s Day too literally. Say thank you to any or all of the women you know who work hard
and love others, since that’s essentially what mothering is all about.
