OBE SYLLABUS IN HISTORICAL RESEARCH 1

A. VISION : CNSC as a premier Higher Education Institution in the Bicol Region


B. MISSION : The Camarines Norte State College shall provide higher and advanced studies in the fields of education, arts
and sciences, economics, health, engineering, management, finance, accounting, business and public
administration, fisheries, agriculture, natural resources development and management and ladderized courses.
It shall also respond to research, extension and production services adherent to progressive leadership towards
sustainable development.
C. QUALITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL : We, at Camarines Norte State College, aiming to become a Premier Higher Education Institution in the Bicol
POLICY Region, are committed with utmost care of the environment in providing excellent services in instruction,
research, extension and production that are responsive to the satisfaction of our students and other
stakeholders.
To achieve these, we shall implement an internationally recognized integrated management system in our
operations, processes and services and shall:
 comply with applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, the mandates of the College and relevant
needs and expectations of our students and other stakeholders, and the requisites of our quality and
environment management system;
 delight our students and other stakeholders by providing value-adding experiences to become well-
rounded and more competitive future leaders in the midst of global issues;
 protect the environment and prevent pollution by optimizing the use of electricity, paper, water and other
resources and adopt the safe and responsible methods of reduction, reuse, recycling and proper
disposal of wastes;
 provide our employees support to grow and achieve their full potentials in their respective fields, thereby
sustaining a competent, motivated and engaging workforce;
 develop and extend innovative technologies to our stakeholders contributing to the country’s sustainable
development; and
 establish objectives aimed at improving the efficiency of our operations, processes and services for our
College growth and development.
We shall make this policy an essential part of our instruction, research, extension and production services to
ensure that it continuously provide us strategic directions in improving our overall quality and environmental

F. COURSE TITLE : Historical Research 1
G. COURSE DESCRIPTION : The course requires the student to write a major historical research/senior thesis under the guidance of a faculty
adviser. The historical research should be submitted in the final semester of the course of study in consultation
with a designated History faculty adviser.
H. CREDIT UNITS : 3 units
I. PREREQUISITE : None
J. NO. OF HOURS : 3 Hours per Week
K. SCHEDULE : MW/2:00-3:30 P.M./TTH/2:00-3:30 P.M./1st Semester, AY 2020-2021

M. INSTITUTIONAL INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES : CSNC envisions a graduate having the following attributes: professional competence, critical and creative
thinking skills, technical competitive skills, productivity, social and ethical responsibility, communication
skills, interpersonal skills and lifelong learning.
N. PROGRAM INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES : The minimum standards for BA History degree program are expressed in the following set of
learning outcomes:
A. Demonstrate knowledge of history as a social science/humanistic disciple;
B. Demonstrate a general knowledge of Philippine History;
C. Demonstrate a general knowledge of Asian and World History;
D. Identify the primary and secondary sources necessary for the study of a specific research
problem;
E. Locate appropriate sources and demonstrate familiarity with standard citation format;
F. Analyze historical data from multiple viewpoints;
G. Complete a research paper using sound historical methodology;
H. Acquire a reading knowledge of a language necessary for research;
I. Recognize the relevance of the study of the past to contemporary issues and concern;

A. On Attendance  
1. In virtual sessions, attendance is not mandatory, but your absence should be complemented by information on why you cannot attend the synchronous session. On
asynchronous sessions, the submission of outputs is equivalent to attendance.

C.  Support/Communication  
1. Questions and clarifications on the lesson, task/assignment/project/output will be entertained after every session, that is, Friday 9:00 A.M – 10:00  A.M only.
Questions beyond this time must be sent via Messenger, and your instructor will respond within the next 24 hours. 
D. Honesty  
1. Answers to assignments, projects, tasks, and activities taken from the internet must not plagiarize anybody’s intellectual property. 
2. Honesty and integrity (doing the right thing even when no one is watching) must be practiced at all times. Future teachers must possess both of these
characteristics. 
 
E. On Implementing Environmental Policies  
1. Use electricity, paper, water and other resources wisely and practice proper waste disposal, including the 3 Rs of waste management; reduce, reuse and recycle. 
F. Syllabus Change/Modification Policy  
1. Should there be emergencies and unexpected events such as calamities, unfavorable weather conditions, pandemic, etc., resulting in interruption of classes, the
contents of the learning plan will be adjusted or modified. 

G. Course Requirements:  
1. Quality work and class participation are required. Recitation will be done during synchronous sessions. 
2. Projects and assignments are given enough time to prepare, but must be submitted on or before the scheduled date and time of  submission. All written work must
be computer-generated, follows the rubrics/criteria, with reference citations (if the information comes from internet sources) and submitted on time. 
3. Quizzes could be synchronous or asynchronous. 
4. Project-based learning will be literature review by group on a given issue concerning the importance, exploration, utilization and preservation of mineral resources,
and results of the review will be presented before the final examination.  
H.  Grading System :
a. Requirements – students will be graded on the following criteria:

1.  In order for any student to pass the subject, he/she must obtain a grade of 3.00 or 75%. The failing grade is 5.00.  
2.  The following grading system shall be adopted: 
The Final Grade (FG) during the current rating period is equal to one-third of the final grade (FG) of the previous rating period plus two-thirds of the
tentative grade (TG) of the current rating period.  Symbolically,
