Body language and facial expressions is a very important non-verbal form of communication
because it helps the speaker convey his or her message properly. These are the unspoken element
of communication that we use to reveal our true feelings and emotions. Not only that, these
elements make your listeners at ease and put their trust in you. However, if a speaker does not
observe proper body language and facial expressions while speaking, the listeners will have a
hard time believing what you are saying. For instance, if you are delivering your speech of
gratitude but you don’t show any facial expressions, your listeners may think that you are not
feeling thankful at all. Using the proper body language and facial expressions helps us gauge
how well our ideas are being accepted. It enables us to build credibility while we are delivering
our rapport. It is important to work more on every non-verbal form of communication to make
the most of every speaking opportunity.
2. Effective communication in a culturally diverse setting may be a little difficult than the usual.
It is because as a speaker in the said environment, you will need to consider everyone’s different
practices, etiquette, use of words, greetings and values. In order to communicate properly, one
has to respect these practices. The way of greeting in different cultures may vary from culture to
culture an example is how Koreans bow in greeting while others hug or shake their hands. Either
way, we have to respect this kind of practice. Moreover, one has to be careful on his or her
choice of words because some words may have a different meaning in other cultures.
Communication in a multicultural setting is indeed complex that in order to understand the
person completely, one has to be multilingual for not everyone is capable to speak the universal
language.
