DISASSEMBLY OF PROPELLER SHAFT

1. REMOVE THE CENTER BEARING FROM THE FRONT
OR INTERMEDIATE PROPELLER SHAFT.
1. Place the parallel edges of the flange in a vise.
2. Using a hammer and chisel, spread the staked parts
of the lock nut.
NOTE: Insufficient spread of the staked parts will
cause damage to the threads of propeller
shaft, when loosening the lock nut.
Fig. 7 SM9-260
3. Put the match marks on the flange and shaft.
4. Remove the lock nut, using the special tool prepared
for that purpose, and take the flange coupling out of
the propeller shaft assembly. Since the coupling is
pressure-fitted, use a commercially available puller
to take it out of the assembly.
Special Tool: Socket wrench (09839-4104)
5. Remove the universal joint flange from the shaft.

Fig. 8 SM9-182
6. Remove the four bolts and nuts, then remove the
center bearing plate, cushion rubber and collars.
7. Remove the center bearing from the shaft.
NOTE: Remove the center bearing on the intermedi-
ate propeller shaft in the same procedure as
above.

Fig. 9 SM9-261
2. REMOVE THE UNIVERSAL JOINT SPIDER.
1. Using snap ring pliers, remove the retainer rings from
the groove.

WARNING
The retainer ring is spring steel and may pop out
from the groove. Wear safety glasses to protect your
eyes.
