2. If an ionic compound is placed in water, the solution will be able to carry an electric
current. If a molecular compound is placed in water, the solution will not be able to
carry an electric current. Why?

Ionic compounds conduct electricity when dissolved in water because the


dissociated ions can carry charge through the solution. Molecular compounds don't
dissociate into ions and so don't conduct electricity in solution.
