MODULE 2 -WEEK 2 | QUARTER 2 | SCHOOL YEAR 2020-2021

Background Information for Learners

An understanding of measurement is essential for all parts of manufacturing and production technology.
Measurements must be uniform so that people have common understanding and application in the production and
use of manufactured objects
Measuring tools are used for the purpose of measuring dimensions, implementing any work with precision.
The measuring tools are also used largely for carrying out different types of measurements.

Learning Competency
LO1: Select and use measuring instrument
1.1 Select appropriate measuring tool /instruments to be used in accordance with job requirements
1.2 Select the right substitute for unavailable measuring instruments

ACTIVITY 1:
Directions: From the table below name only the measuring tools/instrument and substitute (for unavailable
measuring instrument) used in mechanical drafting. Write your answers in your notebook
ACTIVITY 2: Context Clues
Directions: Match column A to Column B to complete the description of the given mechanical drafting instrument.
Complete the task to reveal the hidden word.

Column A Column B
1. Triangle S- use to layout an angle or an arc
2. Ruler T- used for dividing distances
3. Scale R- used as guide in drawing
4. Protractor E3- triangles (different kinds)
5. Tape Ruler/push-pull rule A- used to reduce and enlarge the dimension or size of drawing
6. T-square M1- drawing vertical and oblique lines
7. Compass E2- used to draw circles, radii, and symbols
8. Measuring tape ruler N- tool used in general drawing
9. 30×60 and 45×45 U- used for measuring curve surfaces
10. Triangular Scale M2- spring-steel blade about 6 to 300 feet in length
11. Divider E1- usually 6 or 12 inches in length
