“Here are a few major themes in Patrician and the

are religion, friendship, loss, and racism.”

“It was in the clearing that Patricia's parents had been

escaped only because her father had
shoved her through a hole in the floor during the attack
and she had quietly slipped into the underbrush”

Generalization

1. What was the story all about? “Students share their ideas”

2. What is the message of the story? Theme? “The story is a reminder that we should be reflexive of
other cultures and way of life. Not because we find that
this particular way of life serves us well it will
automatically be case for others. Happiness is arbitrary
as the saying goes " one Man's poison is another
Man's meat." we cannot appropriate what is good for
other people other than that of ourselves. For only you
know what your heart truly desires. It is also a call for
us, who are too much preoccupied with the
superficialities of urbanite, that there is more to life
than the comforts and ease of the city. Humanity often
mistakes itself as the creator of truths, the centre of all
things and the benefactor of everything making him a
threat to nature, the species, and ultimately to himself.
We should remember that we are only a part of a
whole with that whole being the world wherein we
dwell. Embrace nature as it is and let it be. We can see
in the character of Patricia how one can be freed from
the very fast mode of existence that is common in the
life of the modern man and how one can be contented
by merely being able to experience life as it is without
the complexities of contemporary life. Life is a precious
gift and we should celebrate it as slowly as we possibly
can.”
