Multilingual Kids need to feel welcomed, acknowledged and feel comfortable in their
classroom. We as teachers celebrate their languages, instead of replacing it. We need to welcome the
“While Child” with their culture and language, and at the same time help them to merge the core
culture by helping them to learn English, as a Multilingual kid they face a harder challenge learning build
their vocabulary, write and read English, on top of their regular curricula. The video suggests four tips:

Tip #1 .- Incorporate students their home language. You can pair students that share the same language.

Tip #2 be dramatic and visual. Act out new word , chances of recalling a new word after months of being
learnt increase when they were learnt with a gesture of some other type of visualization.

Tip #3.- Try layered questioning. Same question for different level of student, when first a simple gesture
will be enough to answer, then other ways for the same question would be a yes or no, and for more
advanced students, either or questions or more elaborated answers like open ender questions.

Tip # 4.- Provide books that reflect their world. Characters that look or speak like them, will engage
them into reading and learning.

I do Agree with the video, as a custodian, I witnessed the success of an African-American therapist to
connect with an autistic student with a deep grade of autism, it was more that evident that the student
could feel more comfortable with a person of his same ethnicity, he finally could trust someone that
looked like him.

e) Act in the role of the teacher and author 3 (three) OPEN ENDED, QUESTIONS that would evaluate
comprehension of the videos that YOU would ask other students who might want to consider watching
the same video. Consider researching Bloom's Taxonomy from either your text or online to choose
different levels of questioning and verbs typically associated with each. Push yourself to not only author
questions from the lowest level of this chart.
