WitBlox Young Inventor – TechFest 2020

About the Competition

WitBlox Young Inventor TechFest2020 competition is aimed to harness the creative ability among
the young minds of this generation. It will encourage participants not only to conceive an idea to
solve a given problem but also to execute it innovatively, while making a prototype. This will make
them more confident and prepare to face future challenges in life. To participate in this competition,
the WitBlox Young Inventors will find a best idea from the list of 4 themes as given below:

1) Safe Community Living

2) Innovation in Farming
3) Kitchen Automation
4) Home Automation

Participants have to identify a problem, propose their idea, and build a working model on their
selected idea. The best idea will be announced Young Inventor of the Year 2020 and win a grand
prize. The top 20 ideas will be given a certificate of honour. All Participants will get a participation
certificate.

How to Participate

Step 1: Download WitBlox App from the Google Play Store

Available for all Android devices. First, you need to fill in your details to register the
WitBlox App

Step 2: Preview the Themes of the Competition

Click on the Techfest icon at the home screen. You will find information on the 4
different themes of the competition. Choose anyone theme and find more about it.
Does this theme rings a bell to look for an idea? If not, explore the next theme.

Step 3 Create your Inventor’s Profile on WitBlox App

Once you are sure with the theme, click on select the theme button. It will ask to
create your inventors’ profile. You can also create your team’s profile too. A
participating team can have a max of 4 persons. Add your photo in your profile and
you are all set.
Step 4: Submit your Idea

On clicking the Next, you can key-in your idea in the space provided. Make sure your
idea is written in max of 250 words. Press the Submit button to send to us for review
and qualify.

Step 5: Confirmation of your idea by our Jury

Your Idea gets approved the same or next day by our jury. Do lookout for a
notification on the WitBlox App. The notification will have your unique participant
no. We may ask you to rework if it does not qualify the competition criteria.

Step 6: Build a Working Model of your Idea & Submit its video on the WitBlox App

Once your idea is approved, you can start building it. Build it step by step to the best
of your skill and understanding. When you think it is complete, it's time to submit it
for finalist selection. Shoot the video of the working model by a video camera or
smartphone. The length of the film must be less than 3 min. You can also add your
voice in the video to explain it. Upload the video in the App.

Step 7: Your Idea gets selected among the Top 20 Young Inventions

You will receive a notification stating your rank among the submitted entries a week
before the Techfest online meet. The top 20 entries will be invited to showcase their
inventions online before the TechFest Jury.

Step 8: You present your working Model to TechFest Jury through the online meet

We will inform you the schedule of the online event, with date and time through an
email. Meet the jury and all the participants and present your invention online. You
will be given 10 min to present.

Step 9: Become WitBlox Inventor of the year 2020 & Win a Grand Prize

The best idea will be adjudged WitBlox Young Inventor TechFest2020 based on the
combined score of the Judges. All the best!

The idea can qualify only if it clearly describes an identified problem/issue
that is being solved and a brief description to the construct of the solution.

Every video of the uploaded working model will be evaluated by the Jury
and given a score from 0-5 under following heads.
a) Originality (novelty) of idea
b) Application of technology concepts
c) Efficacy of the solution

Competition
1. Structure of the Competition:

Anyone studying in class 5th Std. - 12th Std. in a school situated in India, can participate in this
competition. Participants can register as an individual or as a part of a team member. Each
participating team can have a maximum of 4 members.

To participate in the competition, one must have to download and register oneself in the WitBlox
App available at Play Store, using an Android Smartphone or tablet.

There is NO entry fee for participating in the competition.

2. Procedures for the Submissions

Every participant has to submit an idea which he/she plans to use for making a working model. The
idea must be covered in any one of the four selected themes of the competition. The idea must be
approved by the TechFest jury to get shortlisted for the competition. The Jury can reject an idea
without giving any reason for rejection. It can also advise to re-work on the idea before re-
submission.

Max of 20 videos of participants will be selected based on the uploaded video shoot of their working
models. The shortlisting will be done based on the points it scored under the following categories by
the judges who will be selected by the program committee.

a) Originality (novelty) of idea

b) Application of technology concepts
c) Efficacy of the solution
d) Scalability
e) Environment-friendly

Each model will be scored from 0-5 under all of 5 criteria. Based on the combined scores, the

3. Prizes:

Competition prize winners will be notified of the competition result by email or by direct message on
App and social media within 7 days following the online meet for competition and will receive their
prizes not more than 30 days following that meet.

4. General

When registering an account, it is necessary to accept WitBlox Young Inventor Competitions' Terms
& Conditions, which apply for all registered participants these include:

All users must provide a submission that the user has created him/herself. All users must provide
personal information that is truthful and accurate. WitBlox and/or TechFest reserves the right to
exclude users at their sole discretion.

The video you submit as part of the competition will be uploaded on the Submissions section of the
app will be visible to all registered users of the App after the declaration of the result of the winner
of the competition. By submitting a video, you have given your consent to the publishing of your
video for promotional purposes. If you do not wish to show your video submission, please contact us

If you choose to use music in your video, you must ensure that you have legal permission to do so
and it is not under copyright. WitBlox or TechFest will not be responsible for any copyright
infringement.

WitBlox and TechFest decision in respect of all matters to do with the competition will be final and
no correspondence will be entered into.

The competition and these terms and conditions will be governed by laws of India and any disputes
will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Mumbai.

Theme – 1

Safe Community Living

A lot has changed over the past few months. We are in the middle of the COVID 19 pandemic, a
situation that none of us have confronted before. It has brought many changes in our community
living especially our social interactions, our physical contact, even our moving around - simple things
that we take for granted have changed. We all must protect ourselves as well as others in the
community from the virus spread.

The 1st theme for WitBlox Inventor of the year 2020 is... Safe Community living.

We invite you to bring a fresh idea that helps to protect the community from the transmission of
viruses at home, Residential complexes, Streets and Parks, Schools and colleges, Hotels and
Restaurants, Gyms, or community market place where a person comes in contact with others. This
idea must promote adherence to cleanliness or managing safe distancing in the community. The
scope would cover any method for creating alert or warning for an imminent danger towards
personal safety, to help execute the adherence to safety or even creating awareness about the
safety.

Theme -2

Agriculture plays a vital role in the Indian economy. This sector contributes approximately 18
percent to India's gross domestic product (GDP). It is also the major livelihood for the majority of the
rural population which accounts for almost 65 percent of the Indian population.

The 2nd theme for WitBlox Inventor of the year 2020 is.. Innovation in Farming

To help increase productivity while lowering overall costs, the farmers must actively adopt different
forms of robotic technology. Farmers have already been using tractors and harvesters for
mechanized farming. Recently, there has been a rise in the experimental use of systems that
automate operations like pruning, thinning, mowing, spraying, and weed removal, etc. Sensor
technology is also being utilized to manage pests and diseases that affect crops.

The scope of the theme will cover any simple idea that introduces a better method, tool, or process
to a farmer in sowing, managing the crop, harvesting, transportation, and storing. This new
application of technology must save time, manual labour, or cost over the existing process or
method. The idea must have the feasibility in terms of scalability, cost of production, and overall
energy consumption.

Theme 3

Food is essential to human life as it provides needed nutrients. Nutrients are substances that
provide: energy for activity, growth, and maintaining all functions of the body with necessary
immunity to keep us healthy.

It is not only important to make the right food-related choices but also the necessary food
preparation practices as it has a very important impact on our health. At home, food preparation
methods and choice of ingredients largely depend on the family tradition and practices which are
passed on from one generation to another with a little application of technologies available to make
use of them to make life simpler and safe.

The 3rdt theme for WitBlox Inventor of the year 2020 is.. Kitchen Automation

Robot technology applications can bring a lot of convenience and productivity in managing kitchen
activity at Home or Restaurants. Automated and intelligent process automation will be able to
prepare and cook meals in a home kitchen faster and more hygienically. Automation can be applied
in choosing a recipe, selection of ingredients, determining quantity, quality, and temperature to
arrange pre-packaged containers of cut and prepared ingredients to be able to cook the
predetermined meal quickly and efficiently. It can also be used to manage and cut the food
wastages.

The innovation can choose any part of the chain and bring about the implementable intervention.

Theme 4

The world has seen tremendous growth in telecom technology during the last decade. As a result of
this, a multitude of new applications of Information & Communication Technologies have emerged
and changed the way we live, work, play, interact, and even think.

Today many household equipment and appliances can be remotely controlled and operated from
any location in the world through a smartphone. The use of these Smart Devices at home provides
comfort, security, convenience, energy efficiency, and enhance intelligent living. These Devices
communicate and interact with each other and form a connected ecosystem, executing the tasks
and take necessary decisions.

The 4th t theme for WitBlox Inventor of the year 2020 is.. Home Automation

The intelligent robotic process interventions can bring in automation to everyday domestic tasks and
bring in huge convenience and productivity. Automation can be applied using many kinds of sensors
to identify, operate, or alarm the users in the home environment. The innovation can choose any
problem area and bring about the implementable intervention.
