What is Environment?

An environment is the whole of surrounding things. Surroundings are defined by a

central entity. In ecology, environment refers to the surroundings of humankind.
Generally, environment refers to the biological, physical, and social things on the
earth or in inhabitable space outside the earth’s atmosphere.

What is Environmental Issues?

A variety of environmental problems now affect our entire world. As globalization
continues continues and the earth’s natural processes transform local problems into
international issues, few societies are being left untouched by major environmental
problems.

Recycling
 is the process of converting waste materials into new materials and objects.

What is Recycling?
Recycling invoves:
 separating materials
 collecting them
 processing the materials
 remanufacturing those materials into new product
 buying those new product
 using those new products

Recyclable Materials
 glass, paper, and metal, tires, textiles, and electronics.
 aluminium foil and trays
 cardboard
 food and drinks cans
 food and beverage cartons ( tetrapak type containers )
 plastic bottles, tubs and trays.

Examples of Recycling
 Reusing plastic bags when you go to the supermarket.
 Recycling paper so it can be processed and used again.
 Melting food cans made from steel and making them into new food cans.
 Instead of throwing away uneaten food, you can compost it.
What are the 3R’S?

1. Reduce – to make something smaller or use less. The result is a smaller

amount of waste
2. Reuse – to use again especially in a different way or after reclaiming or
reprocessing.
3. Recycle – to make something new from (something that has been used
before)

Recycling is important because….

 It reduces the number of fresh raw materials we use.
 It reduces the amount of energy we use.
 It reduces air pollution.
 It reduces water pollution
 It lowers the amount of greenhouse gases.

Environmental Importance
1. Recycling is very important as waste has a huge negative impact on the
natural environment.
2. Harmful chemicals and greenhouse gasses are released from rubbish in
landfill sites. Recycling helps to reduce the pollution caused by waste.
3. Habitat destruction and global warming are some the affects caused by
deforestation. Recycling reduces the need for raw materials so that the
rainforests can be preserved.
4. Huge amount of energy are used when making products from raw materials.
Recycling requires much less energy and therefore helps to preserve natural
resources.
