INCARNATIONAL
EVANGELIZATION
JESUS—the man from Nazareth,
the Word of God made flesh—
is the Good News we proclaim. This
Jesus lived in history, took on a
particular culture, grew up in the
teachings of the Jewish faith, is the
center of our evangelizing activity.
In Jesus, the Jews experience the
saving work of Yahweh, their God,
in his words and deeds, which
affirmed/embodied God’s own
love and justice, loving-kindness
and compassion.
INCARNATIONAL EVANGELIZATION:
recalling the memory of Jesus of
Nazareth, the historical Jesus/
the Jesus made flesh
believing that he continues to address us (make
God’s presence alive) in our context and history
today within his community of disciples, the
Church, and

responding to his invitation to carry on

the mission of making God present
by our words and actions.
encourages a faith-formation that leads the youth
to discover God in the realities/situation of their
lives and that of others, in the experiences of
people, and in the realities of
society and the earth community

and in discovering God, they will

deepen their involvement in the life
and contexts of people and commit
themselves to work for transformation
in all these levels towards the
realization of the Reign of God.
REIGN-KINGDOM
FOCUSED
At the center of the proclamation of Jesus of Nazareth
is his core and basic mission—
the Reign or Kingdom of God.
In using the symbol of the Kingdom/Reign of God,
Jesus proclaimed that God alone is King of His people,
and His rule is one of love, compassion, equality and
justice.
As King, God desires that we, His people, care
for one another and
for the whole of creation just as He cares for us all.
Jesus went about proclaiming—
the good news of the Kingdom…
(Lk. 4:43)
the Kingdom is at hand…
(Mt. 3:2; 10:7; Mk. 1:15: Lk. 21:31)
the Kingdom is for the poor…
(Lk. 6:20: Mt. 5:3)
the Kingdom is happening
in the midst of people…
(Lk. 17:21)
the Kingdom demands
change and conversion…
(Mt. 4:17)
promotes a faith-formation that instills in the
learners a firm consciousness of the centrality
of the Reign of God in their life and mission as
Christian disciples;

hopes to fully integrate the learners into the

social-political-economic-cultural-spiritual-
ecological life of society and participate in
the realization of the Reign/Kingdom of God.
LIBERATIVE
In announcing and establishing
the Reign of God, Jesus went
into conflict with the political
and religious leaders of
his country who made
the people suffer.
He strongly opposed
the oppression of
the poor and the
outcasts, of women
and children, of the
sick and the powerless.
Thus, in the gospels, we see Jesus—
…Healing the sick on the Sabbath …Restoring health to the sick who
are treated as outcasts in society

…Refusing to condemn sinners; instead …Denouncing the hardness of hearts of

offering forgiveness to them those in authority towards the lowly
ones of Israel
calls for a faith-formation that nurtures the
faith of the learners towards solidarity with
and preferential love for the poor.

hopes to bring the learners to work side-by-

side with the poor in their struggle to
liberate themselves from poverty, injustice,
oppression, etc.
INCLUSIVE
In announcing and establishing the Reign of God, Jesus
envisioned a new world order that is inclusive:
+where each person is considered an equal
and partner
+where each member of the community
contributes to the shaping of
the culture & society
+where the poor,
the powerless,
and the marginalized are favored
Thus, in the gospels, we see Jesus—
…Reaching out to those who live in the …Sharing his ministry with simple
margins of life and ordinary people

…Relating with women and

children
…Celebrating fellowship with sinners
and outcasts

…Respecting the faith/culture

of non-JewS
centers on a faith-formation that
aims to develop in the learners a
new understanding of and attitude
towards the New People of God
where each one is open to all
persons and regard each member
as a sharer in building a community
of free people where

“there is no longer Jew or Greek, slave or

free, male or female” (Gal. 3:28).
INCULTURATED
In announcing and
establishing the
Reign of God,
Jesus brought his message
within the particular
cultural and societal
setting of the Jews.
Thus, in the gospels, we see/hear Jesus--
…Telling stories that
reflected their life and
…Speaking the
concerns
language of the
people

…Immersing himself
into the world of the
…Sharing the life, values,
poor and ordinary
customs and struggles of
people and addressed
his people
them in their situation
Pursues a faith-formation that seeks
to transmit the Gospel using tools,
methods, and expressions that are
maka-Pilipino, thus, addressing the
learners in the context and
circumstances of their lives, as well as
that of society, with focus on
Philippine context and Filipino cultural
values where the gospel message can
take root.
METHODOLOGY
JUDAEO-CHRISTIAN TRADITION
to turn to experience or context as a starting point.

to focus on a “slice of life’—a personal or communitarian

experience, a situation, religious practice or tradition, an
event or skill to be developed.”

Neo, Towards a Liberating Formation, 3

to bring into careful analysis the experiences and concrete
conditions of people in a given situation (home, school,
community, church, society, government,
environment, etc.)
expansion of awareness
to engage and allow the analysis of experience,
situation or reality to interact with the Word of God and
Church teachings.

The dialogue between the analysis and Judaeo-

Christian tradition results in the reformulation of the
Christian message, in relation to the specific context or
experience
to develop a strategy in order to make our message
concrete and true in a particular situation.

a plan of action, a response to the message discerned,

that is directed towards transformation of persons,
communities, and society.

translating the message into action.
