NORDIC MOBILE TELEPHONE (NMT)

NMT stand for Nordic mobile telephone .NMT is an analog mobile phone network. These
networks connect Nordic countries. It was full automatic network that time. The speciation of
NMT was free and open this enabled many company to make NMT hardware with low price.
This is first invention of Nordic countries like Iceland and Sweden.

RANGE NMT has long range compare to that time network. The frequency of NMT is low
which the signal travel longer. Low frequency the wavelength becomes longer and the signal
transmit away from the station.

POWER NMT phones have high transmission power. At the same time NMT transmit 25 watt
to 450 phones. But today new technologies GSM transmit power approximate 6watt only this
show the power of transmission of NMT is better than gsm.

FREQUENCY The frequency of NMT is 450MHZ however this big advantage over GSM.The
range of NMT is better than GSM. Another advantage of GSM  is that because it is used
throughout the world, there is a greater variety of phones that operate on GSM. Therefore,
consumers have more flexibility in choosing a handset that fits their specific desires, and they are
not limited to purchasing phones only made in their respective country.

ADVANCE MOBILE PHONE SERVICE (AMPS)

AMPS stand advance mobile phone service. This is the first analog telephone system. This
system first developed Bell labs. This system based on electromagnetic radiation .AMPS one of
the most widely developed cellular system in the United States in 1883. This system officially
introduced in Pakistan 1990.but after the united states not support more country services. the
amps disconnected some countries like Pakistan 2004 brazil 2010.

FREQUENCY The frequency of AMPS is 800 to 900MHZ.The is first analog signal but after
it 2000 it converted to digital signal. The modern development of amps is frequency division
multiplexing and time division multiplexing. This is modern development which convert analog
signal to digital signal. In AMPS half of the signal is used for sending and half of the signal is
used for receiving.

Range AMPS The AMPS frequency   range within the 800 and 900 Megahertz (MHz)
spectrum to c telephone. Each cellular service provider can use half of the 824-849
MHz range for receiving signals from cellular phones and half the 869-894 MHz  range for
transmitting to cellular phone.

Bandwidth The radio bandwidth is 30kHZ.the amps can accommodate 832 duplex channels
among which 21 are reversed for all call setup. But another bandwidth is use for voice
communication. AMPS are the analog modulation.

Advantage of AMPS This is the 1G or first generation technology, It is the technology

utilized in the first wireless mobile phone handsets, when the mobile phone began to rise in
popularity with the general public, It replaced 0G network that featured the mobile radio
telephones & the technologies as Mobile Telephone System (MTS) , Advanced Mobile
Telephone System (AMTS.This the first wireless mobile technology used the analog radio
signals , Through 1G network , The voice call gets modulated to a higher frequency of about
150MHz and up as it is transmitted between the radio towers , This is done using a technique
called Frequency-Division Multiple Access ( FDMA ) , Main difference between the two mobile
telephone systems ( 1G and 2G ) , is that the radio signals used by 1G technology is analog ,
while 2G technology is digital.

Disadvantage of AMPS The main disadvantage of 1G technology is that it uses analog

signals rather than digital signals, this is a less effective means of transmitting information, It is
slower, and the signals cannot reach as far in terms of secluded areas and such 2G and 3G signal
is far more widespread.
Personal communication service (PCS)
Pcs is called (personal communications service) .The is a wireless phone communication service
it similar to cellular telephone service. The main advantage of the service is mobility ... As a user
moves around, the user's phone signal is picked up by the nearest antenna and then forwarded to
a base station that connects to the wired network.

Bandwidth The bandwidth of personal communication service up to 1850-1990MHZ this

is a high band width which provide every BTS antenna .the most common use of PCS spectrum
is mobile voice and data services, including cell phone, text messaging, and Internet.

Broadband Broad band PCS has been called "the next generation of mobile telephone
service." Broadband will offer two-way voice, data, and video communications. The spectrum
allocation for broadband is in the 1850 to 1990 MHz range which is separated from other
communication services. Therefore, equipment will have to be designed for that frequency range.
The FCC allocated 120 MHZ to broadband in six bands - Blocks A, B, and C each containing
thirty MHz, and Blocks D, E, and F each containing ten Mhz.

Unlicensed one of the major development of Unlicensed PCS will accommodate a wide
range of services for small areas such as data networking within office buildings with wireless
Local operate without centralized base stations and will be limited to very low power and range
enabling spectrum to be reused efficiently. Unlicensed PCS is particularly suitable for office-
wide and campus-wide services. In addition, equipment manufacturers do not have to wait for
the development of standards since they can design proprietary products for their clients. The
FCC has allocated spectrum for unlicensed PCS in the 1910 to 1930 MHZ band.

Modulation Methods of PCS Modulation is the process of converting data into electrical
signals optimized for transmission. Modulation techniques are roughly divided into four types:
AM, DM, Pulse modulation, and Analog modulation is typically used for AM, FM radio, and
short-wave broadcasting. Digital modulation involves transmission of binary signals (0 and 1).
