BCOR 191
The time I spent in BCOR 191 was useful. It taught me a lot of things that I would not

have tried. It gave me good study tips and was overall useful to someone starting their first year

in college. It made me do things I otherwise would not have done until later on in my

professional career. Such as building a resume and thinking about my overall career and what I

want to do for my future. I also ended up using my resume to apply for an internship that will

help me progress in my field of study.

Overall, I do not think I met the goals that I set for myself. This year was confusing

though, and I do not put all of the blame on myself. It is hard to be motivated when you know

your class is only on your computer and you can access it from your own bed. My peer mentor

also told me that struggling in your first year is normal, and it happens to a lot of people. The

first in college combined with the overall stress and uncertainty about covid and online classes

was a lot for someone not in the swing of things. Some of my classes were tough and were even

tougher due to the online stress and learning management systems on top of them. It was

extremely easy to get lost and BCOR 191 was a breath of fresh air. It was something I knew

wasn’t going to be too difficult. It was nice to learn about how to be successful in my other

classes and how to manage them.

I think the topics that were covered in BCOR 191 were covered because students

personally recommended them over time. I know that I wouldn’t have learned about these topics

if I didn’t have this class. The topics are curated so that students are taught how to succeed. I

think that it was made very clear.

I think one of the best things that I took away from this class was how to access and

interpret my grades. I would not have known how to find my midterm grades without BCOR

191. Another topic I took away from the class was to schedule my spring classes early. I

registered an appointment with my advisor early and I had a grasp of what I was taking next

semester very early on. It was also helpful to find out what I needed in order to graduate, it gave

me a better view on what I should really expect out of each semester of college.

I also took away how much college realistically costs from this class. I wasn’t really sure

of the actual cost of college because there are a ton of aspects to the total cost. The sections on

financial literacy definitely put into perspective the total cost of college and every aspect of it.

That same financial literacy section has taught me how to manage and budget my money better,

which has been very useful for me.

The last section that was very helpful to me in BCOR 191 was the resume section. It

forced me to create a professional resume that I ended up using to apply for an internship. The

overall section was very useful for creating a resume, which can be a very intimidating process

because you don’t know what to put on it.

Overall, BCOR 191 was an extremely useful class. It taught me the things about college

that I would not have otherwise known. I know that if I did not have a class like BCOR 191 I

would not have learned the content that I learned about in this class. It was also very helpful to

have my advisor as the professor and it made asking questions about my major easy and simple.
