PREFACE
Tourism is an important manifestation of modern time and an

interdisciplinary approach is needed to understand how this can contribute to a

positive development of the global civilization. Tourism has emerged as a global

phenomenon after the Second World War. The availability of better and faster means

of communications has resulted in massive movements of people throughout the

world, drawing them closer through experiencing and appreciating different cultures

and lifestyles.

Himachal Pradesh is one of the states in India which has got great diversity in

terms of travel & tourism. It offers a colorful, extravagant, graceful, and diverse

aspect of her personality to each traveler. Himachal Pradesh provides varied kinds of

tourism options such as Adventure Tourism, Religious Tourism, Rural Tourism,

Sustainable Tourism, Eco-Tourism, Green Tourism, Golf Tourism, Nature Tourism,

and Medical Tourism apart from Cultural & Heritage Tourism.

The study focuses very clearly on various variables constituting tourisms in

Himachal Pradesh. The present study has been divided into five chapters. The first

chapter deals with the introduction of Tourism. In the second chapter, efforts have

been made to review the available literature. Research design, which deals with need,

scope, objectives, sample design, research methodology and limitations of the study,

has been presented in the chapter third. Here a comprehensive discussion has been

made about the need and purpose of the study and the objectives of the present study.

Chapter fourth deals with the socio-economic profile and awareness level of the

beneficiaries Final chapter contains summary, conclusions and suggestions which

would be helpful for further study as well as to the policymakers.
