The components and equipment will be fitted and fastened so as to withstand vibrations and frictions
due to transport (road, train, sea) and the necessary loading, unloading and installation operations
carried out with lifting equipment.

Accelerations will be particularly considered, such as:

- axial, critical in train transport

The Supplier will guarantee that low voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies, subject of this
Functional Specification will be designed to respect the safety prescriptions contained in the
Reference Rules.

2.7.2 Protection against direct contacts

Live parts of electric circuits will be placed and protected in the terms prescribed by Rule CEI EN
60439-1, so that trained and authorised persons can carry out the following operations with
energised assembly without danger of direct contacts:

- connection of cables from outdoor;

- removal, for maintenance reasons, of the component of each de-energised circuit.

2.7.3 Protection against indirect contacts

In accordance with the prescriptions of Rule CEI EN 60439-1 and CEI 64-8/4, protection against
indirect contacts can be achieved:
- with protection devices for power supply interruption;

- without power supply interruption at the first earth fault.

If not otherwise indicated in the Data Sheet, the first method will be adopted.

For this reason a "protection bar" (PE) will be installed in all switchgear and controlgear assemblies.
In case of assemblies with complete insulation, the "protection bar" (PE) will connect the protection
conductors and the cables armouring from outside the assembly, and will remain insulated from live
parts and masses.

Withdrawable equipment will be connected to the protection circuit with peg, wiping or spring contact,
both in service position and in test position.

2.7.4 Protection against internal failures

In order to ensure a complete protection for people, provisions will be adopted to avoid electric arcs,
generated by failures inside the switchboard.
When required in the Data Sheet, the LV switchgear and controlgear shall be qualified for an
adequate protection to personnel in case of arching due to internal fault. It means that the assembly
prototype has successfully passed the test specified in IEC 61641.
Internal arc test shall be carried out when required in the Inspection Data Sheet (I.D.S.).

2.7.5 Fire resistance

The materials characteristics will be so that when subjected to fire or heating, they will not catch fire,
burn, keep combustion and emit fumes.
Especially for plastic materials, the self-extinguishing requirements will be guaranteed in accordance
with one of the following test methods:
- ANSI UL 94, Class V

- CEI EN 60707, Classe FV

- CEI EN 60695
The Manufacturer of switchgear and controlgear assemblies will therefore provide test certificates of
reaction to fire by an officially recognised laboratory.
