Lesson Participation in an
Organized Recreational
1 Activity

What’s In

Recreational activities can be grouped into two groups: indoor and outdoor
recreation.

A. Indoor Recreation- activities which are undertaken on the comfort of one’s

home or more specifically inside a building or gymnasium which helps recreate the
mind and soul. For such indoor recreation activities are offered by well-established
clubs or recreation centers. Activities include basketball, swimming, volleyball,
chess, table tennis, bowling, singing, reading, listening to music, watching movies
and more of the same.

B. Outdoor Recreation- activities which undertaken in a natural, rural or open

space. Examples include nature walks, river rafting, cycling, camping, fishing,
hiking, adventure park, surfing and sports.

Taking part in recreational activities, especially outdoors, can greatly improve

physical health. People who take part in park activities such as walking, hiking, or
skiing maintain lower body fat percentages, and have lower blood pressure and
cholesterol levels.

Generally, participation in recreational activities help:

1. reduce obesity;
2. diminish risk of chronic disease, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and
osteoporosis; and
3. manage stress and depression.

Taking time to nurture oneself provides a sense of balance and self-esteem,

which can directly reduce anxiety and depression. People who make recreation a
priority are more likely to feel satisfied with their lives overall. It’s clear that simply
going outdoors and moving your body is a direct way to a happier, healthier you.
Experts suggest that in choosing your recreational activities, it should be of:
1. your interest;
2. voluntary; and
3. meet your recreational satisfaction needs.

3
Note the Teachers
The teacher must consider the prerequisite skills needed in
the development of this competency including the schema or
background knowledge which may reinforce learning. This module
will help the learners bridge the gap of learning to attain mastery
of the lesson in its spiral progression.

you. Be sure to observe safety protocols in the conduct of the activity.
3. Document the activity by taking videos/ pictures.
