Technologies Used For Quality Improvement

Technology for technology's sake is never a good idea. There must be a

purpose behind it. It must help us do our jobs better. Technology must increase
access to care, improve safety, make test results more reliable, and help teams
communicate better for a seamless care experience.

Although fashion and technology are often perceived as entirely distinct fields,
the two have always intersected — generally to the betterment of both
industries.

Take today’s ultimate staple for example: blue jeans. Originally manufactured

for cowboys, miners and factory workers in the mid 1800s, it wasn’t until the
1950s that (Rebel Without a Cause) and its star James Dean sparked their
popularity and widespread adoption — a perfect example of the influential
scopes that technology and fashion industry possess when they converge.

In recent years, technology has been dabbling in the fashion industry. With the
shift from brick-and-mortar retail shopping, technology’s impact has been
difficult to ignore — especially with e-commerce in full force.
As in all sectors, tech is revolutionizing how businesses operate, with the use of
data analytics, artificial intelligence, and virtual technology and so on -leading to
streamline and efficient processes. In light of these technologies, the retail
sector is growing as well as the need for retailers to adapt to the new landscape
and embrace the turning point of the fashion industry.

In recent years, brands have been using AI to enhance customers' shopping

experience, analyze data, boost sales, forecast trends and offer inventory-
related guidance, among many other things.
Take for example, chat bots and touch screens being used in stores to improve
customer experience and customized product suggestions. The technology
behind it includes algorithms that track customer’s journeys to match them with
the right products. Although these customer service technology tools are
promising, trend forecasting and supply chain management are some of the
most profitable avenues for AI. For instance, real-time inventory tracking has
become key for brands as they save time and make for efficient warehouse
management and operations.

The collaborative project of IBM and the Fashion Institute of Technology known
as “Reimagining Retail” used IBM AI tools to indicate real-time fashion industry
trends, themes in trending shapes, colors and styles. IBM’s AI capabilities can
give retailers an edge to speed up the inspirational design phase, helping
designers and fashion houses better personalize offerings and meet customers’
expectations of designs.

Today’s young shoppers increasingly want personalized goods. According to an

IBM study, 52% of Gen Z females would like to see tools that allow them to
customize products for themselves.

to determine this kind of data to optimize production, sales and also reduce cost
and waste. The students at FIT will have IBM Research’s AI capabilities including
computer vision to look into the company’s data like real-time fashion industry
trends, customer sentiment around every Tommy Hilfiger sent back to the
student designers to make informed decisions for new product development.

“The goal was to equip the next generation of retail leaders with new skills and
bring informed inspiration to their designs with the help of AI,” said Avery Baker,
the chief brand officer at Tommy Hilfiger in an IBM blog post. “AI can identify
upcoming trends faster than industry insiders to enhance the design process.”

The Fashion Institute of Technology, teamed up with Tommy Hilfiger and IBM on
a recent project using IBM Research AI tools to analyze real-time images and
fashion industry trends. These AI tools looked at 15,000 images of Tommy
Hilfiger products and some 600,000 publicly available runway images to better
decipher the silhouettes, colors, and styles. One tool, which analyzed nearly
100,000 patterns from various fabric websites, produces novel and unique
patterns — all which informed and inspired our designs.
