Brake Light Switch,Body Electrical

Operation

The Brake Light Switch is a normally open switch and used to deliver voltage to the brake lamps
and to provide a signal to the ECM that the driver applied the brake pedal. This signal can also be
used to disengage cruise control and torque converter lock-up.

Location

Best Test Location:


At four pin connector located on the top of brake pedal support.
Component Location:
The brake light switch is located on the brake pedal support.

Pin Assignment Wire Color

1=On/Start Input Orange

2=Brake Test Switch Signal (To BCM/ESC) Blue - Black

3=Ignition +12V (From IGPM) Blue

4=Brake Light Switch Signal (To PCM) Green - Orange

Tests

Resistance Test

Key off, disconnect stop light switch connector and place test leads Red & Blue across pins at
switch.
Pins 1 & 2 should have continuity with the brake pedal depressed.
Pins 1 & 2 should have open circuit with brake pedal released.
Key off, disconnect stop light switch connector and place test leads Red & Blue across pins at
switch.
Pins 3 & 4 should have continuity with the brake pedal released.
Pins 3 & 4 should have open circuit with brake pedal depressed.
