Interview with
John Bosco
Reporter: Bronte
John Bosco: Lachlan
Cameraperson: Ryan
Editor: Ryan
JOHN BOSCO: Why thank you Liz, so glad to be here tonight to share
my life story and the story of the Salesians.
JOHN BOSCO: Well I was born on the 16 August 1815 near Turin, Italy.
REPORTER: Ok. Now, your childhood can’t all have been full of laughs.
Tell us about your family life when you were growing up.
REPORTER: And did you face any challenges and difficulties in your
life?
JOHN BOSCO: Yes, like everyone else I faced challenging times. When I
was only two years old my dad sadly passed away leaving my mother to
care for me and my 2 siblings.
REPORTER: So, then your mother was obviously one of your role
models. Who else do you consider to be role models in your life?
REPORTER: So, it was through your faith and these role models that
you became a priest. How and why did you begin the Salesians?
JOHN BOSCO: I began the Salesians so that I could help young and
abandoned people to learn a trade and survive in this world.
REPORTER: How did you help the young boys that you looked after?
JOHN BOSCO: I taught them skills that could get them a job or trade
and taught them about God and the Bible.
REPORTER: One of these young boys seemed different from the others. Who
was he?
JOHN BOSCO: He was Dominic Savio. He was a rather bright boy, who
I found in 1854. He always helped others and prayed a lot. He made a
big impact on me. Unfortunately, he died just before his 15 th birthday.
REPORTER: Could you give us some detail on who Mary Mazzarello was
and what she did?
REPORTER: How did the impact of the Salesians and of you help the
community?
REPORTER: How do you believe your life inspire others in our global
community.
REPORTER: Personally, I believe that your life story can help us all by
inspiring us to do great things, and we can follow in your footsteps by
always being kind to one another, and by being the best versions of
ourselves.
JOHN BOSCO: I agree wholeheartedly.
REPORTER: Thank you for giving us a little bit of an insight into who
you are.
REPORTER: That was Don Bosco, the father and teacher of youth. Until
next time, I’m Jemma Craig and you’ve been watching ‘NEWS FOR ALL’
