a.) For Comprehensive Understanding

Khan - Napili ko itong paraan dahil alam ko na isa ito sa makakatulong sakin [sa pag-aaral ko].
Guide [ko] lamang para sa mga lessons na hindi ko maintindihan. - kumukuha lang ako idea dito
at sa pamamagitan nito natutunan ko ang mga bagay na diko alam.

(I chose this method because I knew it would help me in my studies. It guides me only for lessons
I don’t understand. I just get ideas here and through it, I learned things that I didn’t know.)

(I just don't really understand some of the topic that’s why I'm consulting for an academic
service. Our teachers don't teach us much so I’m having a hard time understanding and

(I consult for an academic service because I can’t understand all the lessons in my module, and I
couldn’t answer all the question on my own. That’s why I beg others to help me and explain to

given a solution. Because of course there is and there will always be some parts of a lesson that
I can’t quite understand on my own, and I need someone that will explain it to me completely,
clearly, and concretely. I always give attention to the explanations and guidelines they are
giving so that I know to myself that I can also answer it on my own.)

Mahirap pong matutunan mula umpisa lalo na kung walang maaaring gumabay sa akin sa
pagsagot. Nawawasto ko nga po ang sagot ko kung sakaling may mali ba rito.

(This is the method I chose because I am not familiar with those subjects. It's hard to learn it
from the beginning especially if no one can guide me in answering. I’m even correcting my
answer in case there is something wrong with it.)

ABCya - kasi may mga part talaga sa mga lessons na hindi ko naiintindihan in my own kaya
gusto ko na may magturo sakin. - yung mga binibigay nilang mga explanations iniintindi ko
talaga sila at mas pinagtutuunan ng pansin na aralin ito.

(Because there are parts of the lessons that I don't understand on my own so I want someone to
teach me. I really pay attention to understand their explanations.)

Brainly - Kumukunsulta ako sa nasabing "academic sevice" sapagkat sa kalagayan nating "new
normal" nakararanas ang bawat mag-aaral na tulad ko ng matinding pagbabago mula sa
nakasanayang "mode" ng pag-aaral. Mula sa "face-to-face" papunta sa "modular" na pag-aaral.
Dahil sa pagbabagong ito, nahihirapan akong makasabay sa leksyon.

(I consult such “academic service” because in our “new normal” state every student like me
experiences a drastic change from the traditional “mode” of learning. From “face-to-face” to
“modular” learning. Because of this change, I have a hard time keeping up with the lesson.)
NOVA - At dahil wala rin kami answer key useful ang mga facebook groups na ito dahil
matututunan mo kung paano makuha ang tamang sagot.

(And because we also don’t have any answer keys, this Facebook groups are very useful for us
because you will know how to get the correct answers.)

Quizlet - Dahil sa kakulangan ng explanation and minsan hindi naman po itinuro. Tinutulungan
ka nila pag nereview mo ung sinagutan and tinuro nila sayo doon mo malalaman kung paano nila
ito nasagutan and pag nagets mo na magkakaroon ka na ng kaalaman kung paano nila nakuha
ung sagot, ganon po.

(Due to the lack of explanations and sometimes it’s not even tackled, they will help you
(academic servers). When you review the answers they gave to you, that’s when you will know
how they solved it, and when you already get it, it means you have successfully understand the
lesson.)

Zinn - kasi kaya nagconsult sa acad servicing para magpaturo hindi para kumuha lang basta-
basta ng sagot ng may sagot.

(you consult for an academic service because you need their help to teach you not just to easily
get the answer of someone.)

b.) Poor Time Management

Khan - Hirap sa pagmanage ng time.

(the difficulty in managing time)

(The time allotted for answering all "subjects" is also limited. Because you will be studying the
lesson on your own in addition to the various performance tasks that also need to be passed
before the "deadline." Isn't it encouraging to use "academic services" where you can get the
answer to the module immediately without being late for the given deadline especially in today's
time and situation of each student?)

c.) To Acquire Basis/Foundation of a Particular topic

StarFall - idea lang naman ang kinukuha ko dito at hindi ang kabuuang sagot ng mga academic
servers.

(I don’t copy the entire answers given by academic servers, I only get ideas with it.)

ClassDojo - kumukuha lamang ako ng ideya dito and at the same time, natuto ako at mas
naiintindihan ko yung pinapasagutan.

(I only get ideas here and at the same time, I am learning and I understand better the
lessons/tasks.)

FunBrain - dahil ito lamang ay isang guide o tulong sa mga subject or questions na nahihirapan
at hindi mo talaga maintindihan.

(When you review the answers they gave to you, that’s when you will know how they solved it,
and when you already get it, it means you have successfully understand the lesson.)

Based on a research study carried out by Theall, Micheal, of Youngstown State University, Wager,
Walt, of Florida State University, and Svinicki, Marilla, of University of Texas at Austin, the
foundations of any discipline are its definition, knowledge base, terminology, structure,
methodology, and epistemology. As we move from basic knowledge to the complex organization and
hierarchies of information in the disciplines, we parallel the levels of Bloom’s cognitive taxonomy
(1): knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation.

This objective, “Gaining a basic understanding of the subject…,” deals with acquisition of basic
information upon which more complex learning relies. While traditional teaching methods,
especially lecture and readings, are quite efficient at “delivering” this kind of information, the
question is whether “delivery” is enough. Simply having the information at hand does not
guarantee that students will understand it or know how to learn it. Are there ways to help students
learn the material more effectively and also be able to use the information as they move into more
complex cognitive tasks?
Research (2) has shown that there are two essential tasks to foster student achievement: help
students see the relevance and importance of the information, and make it understandable. In fact,
the dimensions of teaching that are the strongest correlates of student achievement are: 1)
preparation and organization; 2) clarity of communication; 3) perceived outcome of the
instruction; and 4) stimulating student interest in the course content. The first two concern the
organization of information and its effective presentation and have traditionally been part of a
teacher’s preparation. The second two deal with motivation and engaging students in their
learning.

If students understand why information is important and useful, if their curiosity is piqued, if they
are appropriately challenged, and if they perceive relevance of the content, they will be willing to
exert more effort and will perform better as a result.
Therefore, we can conclude that one of the reasons why students tend to consult for an academic
service is to acquire basis/foundation of a particular topic.

d.) Lack of Enthusiasm

Khan - Kasi nakakawalang gana minsan mag-aral lalo na nasa bahay, nakakatamad.

(it’s because I don’t have an energy to study sometimes, especially when at home, I’m too lazy.)

(Honestly, I always lack energy to answer sometimes, and it’s because of the incomplete
discussions and I don’t even understand it. But there are times where I force myself to
understand it even though it’s difficult because if not, I will get a failing grade.)

Zinn - Stress, pagod, mahirap din intindihin yung mga lessons lalo na new student ako ng senior
high, ang hirap mag adjust, lalo na sa oras kasi nakakawalang gana minsan mag aral lalo na nasa
bahay, Nakakatamad.

(Stress, Fatigued, it’s also difficult to understand those lessons specially I’m a new senior high
student, it’s hard to adjust, especially in managing my time because sometimes I don’t have an
energy to study, specially here in our house, I’m too lazy.)

e.) To Eradicate Delaying Tactics

Based on the research study carried out by Hussain, Irshad, delaying tactics or most commonly
known as Procrastination appears to make students postpone and delay their academic work
becoming self-excusive and ignoring their academic responsibilities during the entire course of
studies. It seems a common practice that students put off their academic work: they delay in
preparing & submitting their assignments & presentations, completing projects, and even
preparing for the examinations. In education and training, the term academic procrastination is
commonly used to denote the delay in academic activities. It may be intentional, incidental and/or
habitual but significantly affects learning and achievement of students. However, different scholars
(Morelli, 2008; Schmitt, 2008; Letham, 2004), have described different kinds of procrastination e.g.
realistic, unrealistic and spiritual procrastination; chore, dream; behavioural, decisional and meta-
cognitive procrastination. Whatever the kind of procrastination is, however, it slows down the
performance of students making them careless, lazy, passive and academically stagnant &
irresponsible.

Therefore, we conclude that one of the reason why students tend to consult for an academic service
is to eradicate delaying tactics.

f.) For Explanatory Adequacy

Habitica - Hindi maintindihang instructions. Hindi maintindihang lessons. walang load pan
research. na dedepress ako maygad.

(The instructions are difficult to understand. The lessons are incomprehensible. I don’t have a
load for research. I feel depressed mygooood.)

Based on the research study carried out by Theall, Micheal, A Youngstown State University,
Educational Foundations, Research, Technology and Leadership, Faculty member, being able to
organize content so that students can best understand not only the basic facts and principles, but
also their relationships and the ways in which they connect to form larger ideas. Though making
clear how topics fit seems obvious and simple on the surface, it is often the case that the deep
expertise of the teacher leads to presumptions about students’ grasp of the material. In effect, what
is crystal clear to us may be “clear as mud” to students. Indeed, as people with native ability and
vast experience, we may not be able to immediately perceive what problems students are having or
why they are having them because we simply never had to deal with these problems. We intuitively
understood the material and its structure. Thus, one basic aspect of curricular knowledge is the
ability to translate this understanding and to show students how content is structured and
connected.

From another perspective, research on the dimensions of college teaching (2, 3) also provides
powerful evidence of the importance of helping students to organize the content. With respect to
student achievement, the most strongly correlated teaching dimensions are organization and clarity.
These dimensions are also powerful predictors of student ratings, perseverance, and retention.
When teachers make clear how topics fit, they help students to construct accurate schemas and they
clarify the structure of the discipline. The result is better student learning and increased student
satisfaction because that learning becomes more apparent.

Therefore, we conclude that one of the reasons why students tend to consult for an academic service
is for Explanatory Adequacy.

g.) Peer Influence
