Persuasive Analytical Essays

In 1921, a school named Summerhill was founded in Hellerau by A. S. Neill. Children who

attend this school will be a part of a free and joyful community. Moreover, they are individually

free from adult authority thanks to Summerhill’s philosophy. People believed that Summerhill is

an ideal school for reasons. Summerhill might be successful for many years by providing a

carefree-but-responsible environment, it is different from other schools. The freedom that this

ideal school giving to children is to promote good personalities, not to spoil them by ignoring

bad habits. Thus, attending to Summerhill School maybe reasonable.

Nowadays, many parents suppose that without forcing, children would never want to study, this

can be proved that is not totally true. The environment provided by Summerhill is where children

can grow up free from the harmfulness of the outside world. Students are given opportunity to

have their own freedom and power, this would help them to go on their own way in developing

themselves. At this school, students would go to lessons without any pressure even when they

can decide to stay away. It is can be clearly seen that, Summerhill is way different than the

majority of schools by its one-of-the-kind education philosophy. However, it can be argued that

attendants who are uninterested in studying may always choose to play, this led to worse

situation when they are uneducated and irresponsible. Admittedly, living life in Summerhill’s

community will not only teach students with subjects like mathematic, but also vital social skills
such as communicate, yet it is depends on kids inclination. So, Summerhill might be a better

school among those schools with ordinary educating system.

Summerhill gives children their own freedom might not mean this school allows any bad habits

to formed. Students can take part in an active community and assume their real responsible as

they receive more than just school subjects, it is also about work-related skills such as running

shop and working for money. These are essential for children future development because of the

awareness of decision making, cooperating and planning. The bonding between students are

mainly well-formed by taking part in school activities. Empathy and caring is also being taught

at Summerhll, children seem to be willingly to talk and listen to each other, instead of staying in

the individual zone. However, the OFSTED report shows that there are many pupils have been

allowed to mistake the pursuit of idleness for the exercise of personal liberty. Maybe Summerhill

has gone the wrong way in their confusing educational freedom, this led to pupils falling behind.

Genuinely, Summerhill study program can be a reasonable choice to enhance self-development

students, yet this program still needs improvement and mistakes are inevitable. Thus,

Summerhill helps children promoting their good personalities and skills, also help avoiding their

both inside and outside harmfulness.

In conclusion, with the exclusive different from other school, Summerhill can be proud of the

way they teach children valuable things in life without forces. The motto of this school:”

Freedom, not license” can be understand that students are free to do what they like, but do not
interfere others freedom. It is not reckless but it is discipline are created by children themselves

with their own liberty. It is clear that Summerhill is an ideal school.
