Q)
Write an account of miscommunication that you experienced in your life?

Miscommunication is described as a failure to communicate accurately. It is a
type of communication barrier. Miscommunication occurs when speakers ascribe
different meanings to the same word. It also happens when we do not know the meanings
of words. Cultural diversity may result in miscommunication. It is a moment where
either the speaker is incapable to provide the proper and enough information or the hearer
misinterpret and couldn't understand the communication from the speaker. The cases of
miscommunication vary depending on the condition and persons included in it but often
result in confusion and frustration. Many times in my life, I also have experienced
miscommunication while talking to my family, friends, and teachers.

Once my mother walked out the door to go to her school, said: “If you have
time, try to clean the house this afternoon." I was, heading down, concentrating on
breakfast, grunts in reply, “Uh-huh.” To the mother’s dismay, the house remained
untouched when she returned home. I, when confronted by my angry mother, excused
my lack of action with the explanation, “You said ‘if I had time,’ and I was busy doing
my assignments all day.”

Another incident happens when my last assignment was physiology. But due to
an electrical problem, I was not able to submit it. I asked my teacher to extend some
time. My teacher said “Do you able to submit your assignment to me Wednesday if they
are electricity tonight?” and I replied: “Yeah, I will.” My sir said “Great” and assumed
that I agreed that the assignment will be completed and submit in tonight’s mail. While I
thought that he was agreed that the assignment should submit to him by Wednesday if
the problem resolves tonight. This is a simple example of miscommunication.

Once my cousin told me that I went to the library, the book which I needed was
present on the higher shelf, so my friend asked me to stand on a stool to reach the book.”
I just got confused and couldn’t figure out why anyone would stand on a stool. I had a
standoff for a moment, but then suddenly remember that it is not used as a medical term
here. Because in medical terms “stool” meant something you get samples of.

Many times, I also faced miscommunication while talking to my university

fellows. Because mostly are Saraiki. I feel difficulty in understanding because, in their
language, the meanings of some words are different which causes hurdle in
communicating. These are a few examples. To overcome the issue of miscommunication,
we should be clear and concise in our instructions, be aware of the communication style,
and know the limitations of texts and emails.
