Topic 2: AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE STATUS READING

BOOKS OF ENGLISH STUDENTS AT TDM UNIVERSITY


1. “Reading habits will enable students to have effective study skills,
knowledge of different information resources, and effective retention
capacity. Reading is an essential tool for knowledge transfer and the habit of
reading is an academic activity that increases skills in reading strategies”
=> According to Owusu-Acheaw, reading books will provide us with a
variety of knowledge and help us develop the necessary skills. Reading habits
has significance effect on academic performance of students.

=> Reading is a very useful action if we practice it from a young age.

=> People tend to read books through the internet, but reading books online
and reading paper books will have a significant difference.

=> Chettri & Rout (2013) understood reading as an optional step taken by
people to critique various topics discussed in a passage and indicated
that in learning, reading is the medium that helps people to gain a deeper
understanding of the world around them.

5. Reading is one's mental process towards a text. In its narrow sense, reading
means analysing a text composed of letters and trying to interpret it as a
whole. In a larger sense, reading is the reader's appropriating a literary text
for himself. In other words, it is a process through which more internalises
what he reads and makes use of it in every stage of his life. In this sense,
reading is the most effective learning activity through which an individual
can improve himself in terms of critical thinking, developing new and
different perspectives, understanding himself and the world, and interpreting
the events and situations he is going to encounter."
=> Reading is the mental process of approaching a text. Reading, in its most
basic sense, entails studying a text made up of letters and attempting to
comprehend it as a whole. Reading, in a broader sense, is the reader's
personalization of a literary work. In other words, it is a process through
which a person internalizes what he reads and applies it to all aspects of his
life.

6. "Sometimes the idea of sitting down and reading a book might seem more
like a homework assignment than a fun and relaxing activity. Reading a book
can be an enjoyable experience that begins with choosing a genre and book
that you think you will like. Creating an environment that is welcoming for
reading and incorporating creative activities into your reading process will
help ensure you have fun while reading."
=> Lying down to read a book may appear to be more of a chore than a
pleasurable and relaxing pastime at times. Reading a book may be a
pleasurable experience that starts with selecting a genre and book that you
believe you will enjoy. Making your reading surroundings inviting and
adding creative activities into your reading routine.

=> Nowadays people tend to read online more than read print books.

=> To keep up with fresh knowledge in the changing environment of the
modern era, everyone must embrace the value of reading in their everyday
life. Reading is essential since it benefits not only an individual's well-being,
self-development, and growth, but also the entire nation and the globe.
