Movie Case Study (Norma Rae)
This movie case study is geared toward workers who work at the local textile mill,
where the pay is hardly commensurate with the long hours and lousy working conditions
of the company. The workers will have the opportunity to gain knowledge, deep
understanding and be vigilant in terms of working conditions.
This case study is able to investigate the lapses occurred in the company. This
case study will help the future of the company and the workers on how to prevent on
cautious accidents. And the terms and policy that a company would have.
The problem occurs on this movie are lapses on working procedure, not enough
training, they have no break, they can’t have a break time to sit to have a rest so that
the work can finish faster. They do not give enough salary for their workers. Lack of
safety gears, no- intervention from co- worker. Supervisors and superiors have no
sense of responsibility. The company lacks of proper medication, incessant din of the
factory’s equipment that can cause hearing damage, even me when we’re watching the
film, it so noisy and we also can’t take the noise. And also the place is functioning
without a union. Norma Rae Webster’s mother is rapidly going deaf from the incessant
din of the factory’s equipment and her father died because of a heart attack due to over
fatigue. They also lack of personal protective gears.
This is our some of recommendations on how to keep the employee’s safe:

 Motivate and encourage the workers to always wear personal protective

equipment especially on their ears.
 The company should have the proper working procedure, employers should have
a sense of responsibility towards their employees.
 Ensure that they have proper medical medications, and do not ignore any
accidents or incidents inside the company’s premises. They should care for their
workers.
 They should provide safety training for all of their employees.
 The company should follow the laws and standards for their workers.
 Employees should have a break, and give enough salary. And do not abuse the
workers in their long working hours having no break but has low salary.

Implementation of safety working plan must be involves a host of things like

educating the workers and also the supervisors and working stakeholder of the
company feel responsible for assuring the safety norms and policies are rightly
followed. The common responsibility of employees has been directed in safety
plan but problems need individuals to take accountability and responsibility.
