TOPLUM ÇEVİRMENLİĞİ Diyaloglar (İÖ) AT
Emily Clarke: My name is Dr. Emily Clarke, I work with the European Network of
Rehabilitation Centres for Survivors of Torture.
belirtiniz.
Ayshe Ausso Avukatı: Daha önce mahkemede bilirkişi tanıklığı yaptınız mı?
Emily Clarke: Yes, I have been working with survivors of torture and severe war trauma for
the past 15 years and have evaluated over 100 survivors and worked as an expert witness
over 50 cases.
Emily Clarke: I have been working with survivors of torture and trauma for approximately 15
years. I have also been doing forensic evaluation in particular since 1998 when I recieved my
doctorate degree.
ilgiliydi?
Emily Clarke: Because I am a bilingual, multicultural therapist, those are the cases I tend
to get. So I can say %50 of the cases I got were related to these subjects.
Sığınma Koşulları Değerlendirme Avukatı: Peki akıcı bir şekilde Türkçe konuşabiliyor
musunuz?
Sığınma Koşulları Değerlendirme Avukatı: Evet, ana dille iletişim kurmaktan bahsediyorum.
Emily Clarke: I speak 3 other languages. I speak French, Dutch and Italian in addition to
my mother tongue,German. I certainly do evaluations in these languages. But I also deal
very adequately with interpreters in other languages as well. No therapist will know all of
the other languages for which we interview people. However, I have not noted it makes any
difference when I speak the native language of the client and when I don’t.
2. Oktay Ferhat Özsiper
Canadian family wants to hire a house in Turkey and meets with real estate agent for
further information and help.
Father: Hi, we would like to hire a house with three bedrooms, do you have any options you
can show us?
edersiniz?
Father: Well, we don’t know around much, so we prefer a house close to city centre, it also
be good if the house is close the transportation stations.
Agent: Tamamdır, elimizde size uygun üç ev var. İkisi şehir merkezinde apartman dairesi, biri
biraz daha uzakta bahçeli müstakil bir ev.
Father: We are not interested in the apartments, they can be noisy or neighbours can be
problematic. Can you give us information about detached one? Is it too far from city centre or
transportation?
problem yok.
Father: Building is a bit old, but I guess renovation was very thorough, so we won’t have to
deal with too much problem. And, also garden would be good for the kids, we would like
to deal with it. How much is the rent?
Agent: Ev sahibi 1600 TL istiyor ama sanırım 1500 liraya ikna edebilirim.
Father: Yeah, if you can it would be very good for us. How much is the deposit and your
commission?
Father: That’s good news. Before we go, can I ask you about contract?
Father: This contract is in Turkish and I can’t understand any word of it. Why there is three
signature area?
Father: Okay, thanks for your help. We would like to see the house if you are okay.
MÜŞTERİ TEMSİLCİSİ: Eylül havayolları Kayıp ve Hasarlı bagaj bölümünden ben Ahmet
Yılmaz. Sizlere nasıl yardımcı olabilirim?
TERCÜMAN: Merhaba Ahmet Bey. Ben Mehmet Gündüz. Misafiriniz olan MOHAMMED
MOHAMMED adlı yolcunuz için arıyorum. Kendisi de şu an hatta. Kendisinin ana dilinde
Her yere baktınız

Muhabirimiz A.K. sorularını aile üyelerinden İngilizce bilen N.J. a sormuştur, aralarında ki
iletişimi sağlayan çevirmen D.K. olmuştur.
N.J.: We arrived as a refugee from Efrin, Syria. Our region was not far from Aleppo, so we
encountered many problems. The business life in Ratyan is mostly driven by agriculture and
services. For example, our brothers had a restaurant, and our father worked on the
construction area of the civil service under Assad.
N.J.: First, we had to leave the land we lived. We lost our work, our home. Food and health
problems were very intense. Everything we needed to live was available only in the black
market. That is the reason why the transition began. Our lives have become truly unbearable.
Imagine that you're leaving the geography you were born and be constrained to immigrate in
the cities of a country you never know.
N.J.: You have to work to live. Our biggest problem that comes up is when we search for a
job. There is a language barrier, that is why we are not hired because we do not know
Turkish. After a period of work in poor conditions, we leave the job. In the current time, we
are working in a restaurant. Certainly, conditions in Turkey are not the best for living.
Working hours are too long. My father and my brothers come out of the house in the morning
and come back home late at night. If we compare with Syria, this place is very bad.
A.K.: Suriye için uluslararası yardım kuruluşlarının tutumları nasıl? Bilinenler arasında bunlar
Mülteci Destek Derneği (MUDEM), Mülteci Dayanışma Derneği (Mülteci-Der), Türk
Kızılayı Göç ve Mülteci Hizmetleri, Sığınmacılar ve Göçmenlerle Dayanışma Derneği
(SGDD). Gerçek anlamda çalışma yürütüyorlar mı?
N.J.: These organizations do a real sense of reaching out to the people who are in the war.
They assisted in the elimination of our basic vital needs, provided legal advice on their access
to social rights, and distributed aid to the immediate needs of refugees and asylum-seekers.
A.K.: Izmir’de milliyetçi-ırkçı saldırılarla yüz yüze geldiniz mi? Buradaki halkın size bakışı
nasıl?
N.J.: We feel more fortunate than other Syrian families. We have not encountered such a
problem in this place. The families here were afraid of us at first and they were uneasy. As
time went by, we began to warm to each other. They even started to help us. They are asked
about our shortcomings, inviting us for tea. So sensible. Syrians and Turks learned to live side
by side here.
N.J.: First, we had to register at the BMMYK Ankara Office. There were interpreters who
knew Persian and we were given the opportunity to indicate your preferences for the
interpreter's gender. During the registration, we were asked to fill out the BMMYK Refugee
Status Application Form; BMMYK employees have helped us with it. In this form some
questions took place. Such as; the family identity, residence, education, business information,
reasons of escape from our country, our travel details to Turkey, also questions like why are
afraid to return to our country and reasons for leaving the country. We filled the form
separately, including my little sister and brother that are under the age of 18. Later, after the
registration, we participated in the BMMYK Ankara Office's individual interview with
BMMYK Refugee Certificate.
A.K.: Bizi evinize davet ettiğiniz ve yaşadıklarınızı bizimle paylaştığınız için teşekkür ederiz.
Olay belediye evlendirme dairesinde geçmektedir. Yabancı vatandaş (mavi kartlı vatandaş)
ile Türk vatandaşı evlenecektir fakat istenilen bazı evraklar vardır. Bu konuda anlaşmakta
zorluk çekerler.
Y: Hello, I want to marry in September. I'm an Italian citizen, I've collected all my documents.
(bekarlık belgesi: certificate of celibacy - doğum belgesi: birth certificate)
Y: The Italian consulate gave to me these documents and they said to me it would be enough.
Memur: Konsolosluğunuz bu belgeleri temin edebilir çünkü şu anda sizi onlar temsil ediyor.
Y: Is it enough to get the documents from the consulate, or is there any other authority to
approve them?
Y: As far as I know, it's enough to get these documents approved by the governorate.
Memur: Aynen yeterli olur.
ettirmenize gerek yok.
Y: Thank you for your interest I will bring the documents as soon as possible. So when should
I bring the medical report?
Y: I knew this could be a problem, she changed her name officially. Here is the document.
Memur: Bu olay baya bir karıştı, evet bu belge yeterli olabilir fakat benim nüfus müdürlüğüne
arayıp bu durumu sormam lazım.
Y: When I applied for the blue card, I had solved this problem by writing a petition.
Y: Then we will have all our documents ready after the medical report, right? Is there
anything else we need to do?
Memur: Evet bir eksiğiniz kalmadı. Belgelerinizi getirdiğinizde sadece 500.-TL bir ödemeniz
olacak.
BAŞVURU SAHİBİ: I haven’t notice that there is a signature area, I’m sorry.
MEMUR: Bu bir sorun değil, merak etmeyin. Sistem üzerinden başvuruya ulaştım. Kısa
dönem oturma izni için başvuru yapmışsınız doğru mudur?
BAŞVURU SAHİBİ: That’s correct. I will stay here 6 months for an exchange programme.
BAŞVURU SAHİBİ: My middle name is Heike but I could not write it in the application
form.
MEMUR: Ben eklemeyi yapıyorum sorun değil. Harç Bedeli ve İkamet İzin Belgesi Bedeli
ödemelerinin makbuzlarını göremedim, ödeme yapıldı mı?
BAŞVURU SAHİBİ: Before coming here I made the payment to Konak Tax Office, I forgot
to add it. Here it is.
BAŞVURU SAHİBİ: I will be working from 9 until 17 with one hour break between 12 and
13. I did not see anything about my working hours in the application form.
sordum. Peki kalacak yerinizi çalışacağınız şirket mi organize etti?
BAŞVURU SAHİBİ: Before coming here, in the contract I signed, it was also written, they
will provide me meal for 5 working days, transportation and my apartment.
gerekiyordu.
BAŞVURU SAHİBİ: I am aware that I don’t have it but my company is going to arrange it
before my work starts.
MEMUR: Hayır randevu oluşturmanız gerekmiyor, geldiğinizde eksik evrak için olduğunu
belirtmeniz yeterli.
MEMUR: Pasaport fotokopiniz eksik fakat onu ben ekleyeceğim. Son olarak birkaç uyarıda
bulunmam gerekiyor.
BAŞVURU SAHİBİ: I have understood everything clearly. Thank you so much for
everything. Can I go now?
MEMUR: Geçiçi İkamet İznini aldığınıza dair buraya bir imza atıp gidebilirsiniz. Ayrıca size
bu kağıtta yazdığım eksik evrağı 3 iş günü içerisinde teslim etmeyi unutmayın. Eğer teslim
edilmezse tekrardan başvuru açılması gerekir. İyi günler dilerim.

(Ali Koca, 5 yıllığına yaşamak üzere İngiltere’ye gider. Kendisini iyi hissetmediği için
Türkiye’de bazı tahliller yaptırmış, fakat sonuçları doktora göstermemiştir. Kız kardeşinin
ısrarı üzerine Londra’da bir doktora gider.)
Doctor: Hello, my name is Doctor Gilbert. How can I help you?
Patient: Merhaba doktor bey, ben Ali Koca. Özellikle geceleri nefes almakta güçlük
çekiyorum, sürekli öksürüyorum ve çok terliyorum.
Doctor: I want to ask you some questions to understand what is happening. Do you smoke?
Patient: Evet, 15 yıldır günde 1 paket sigara içiyorum.
Doctor: Do you have asthma or any allergic disease?
Patient: Bildiğim kadarıyla yok. Çok korkuyorum çünkü kendimi hiç iyi hissetmiyorum.
Doctor: Firstly, you need to calm down. And please answer my questions properly. Do you
have cancer in your family history?
Patient: Evet, dedemi akciğer kanseri yüzünden kaybettim.
Doctor: You might have some similar symptoms but it is too early to get worried. I need to run
some tests including blood tests and X-Ray.
Patient: Aslında Türkiye’de bazı tahliller yaptılar, sonuçları yanımda. Fakat doktora
göstermeye vaktim olmadı.
Doctor: When did you have them made? And it is better if we make them one more time in
this hospital.
Patient: 15 gün önce yaptırmıştım. Tamam, ne gerekiyorsa yapın.
Doctor: When we get the latest results, I can compare them and then we will see what your
problem is.
...
Doctor: I regret to tell you that I noticed a tumor sized 6 centimeters and your blood values
have decreased when compared with your previous tests. I also need you to have a PET scan.
Patient: Daha önce böyle bir şey yaptırmadım. Canım yanacak mı?
Doctor: In short, you will need to drink a fluid before scanning so that we can monitor your
lungs in detail. But it is totally pain free. Don’t worry about it.
Patient: Umarım tadı kötü değildir. Sonuçları ne kadar beklemem gerekiyor?
Doctor: It will take 10 days to get the results. But I guess I can make an exception.
...
Doctor: I got your results. Well... it is hard to say but your tumor is malign.
Patient: Nasıl yani? Bu tam olarak ne anlama geliyor?
Doctor: You have lung cancer. But, luckily, it is still on its first stage. Furthermore, you don’t
have any metastasis. I mean, it hasn’t spread to any other organs. It can be treated.
Patient: Anlamıyorum. Şimdi ne olacak? O zaman ameliyat edin, hemen iyileşeyim.
Doctor: The first step is to make tumorectomy, because your tumor is not small and hasn’t
spread anywhere. First of all, you need to quit smoking. You will get healthy with proper
treatment.
Patient: Peki ameliyat yeterli değil mi?
Doctor: Unfortunately, no. This type of disease requires a long and multistaged treatment.
After the operation and recovery, you will get chemotherapy. After chemotherapy has been
done, you may need radiotherapy, too.
Patient: Radyoterapi kaç seans olacak? Uzun sürecek mi?
Doctor: I cannot say an exact number. And a session doesn’t take long. Do you have any
family members here? I can explain this situation to your family, too.
Doctor: So she can speak English?
Patient: Evet, 20 yıldır burada yaşıyor.
Doctor: That’s good. I can better explain this situation to her. So, Mr. Koca, I am going to
schedule another appointment, it is 2 days later. And I want you to promise me that you will
quit smoking. And how long are you going to stay in the UK?
Patient: Bugünden itibaren sigara içmeyeceğim. Kardeşimin restoranında çalışmaya
başlayacağım, önümüzdeki 5 yıl burada kalmayı planlıyorum.
Doctor: Then I will make a list of what you need for the treatment process. Please bring them
to the next appointment. I will also refer you to a psychologist to make you feel better during
treatment.
Patient: Size güveniyorum doktor bey. Bir sonraki randevuda görüşmek üzere. İyi günler.
Doctor: Everything will be better. Take care yourself and have a good day.
Şu an
hasta değilim ve herhangi bir yara almadım.
Ms. Elsa Bennett: Well sir, you do have a urinary tract infection. That’s why we inserted your urinary
catheter. But sometimes these problems are the result of previous conditions. Have you had any
urinary, bladder, or kidney problems before now?
Arda Yazıcı: Hayır hiç birini daha önce yaşamadım. Nasıl enfeksiyon kapmış olabilirim? Bir insan
nasıl ımmm.. şey… adını söyleyemiyorum o enfeksiyonu kapmış olabilir? Tam ismi neydi? Tercüman
Bey/ Hanımefendi yardımcı olabilir misiniz?
Ms. Elsa Bennett: A urinary tract infection is an infection in any part of your urinary system — your
kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra. Most infections involve the lower urinary tract (the bladder and
the urethra). We call it in short UTI maybe it can be more familiar in your language. A type of bacteria
causes this type of infection. It enters your urethra and travels up, blocking the flow of urine out of
your body. That’s when you’ll notice difficulty urinating or pain when you urinate. Anytime that urine
cannot flow out of the body, the system backs up and the bacteria multiplies, which causes the
infection get worse or to spread upward into your kidneys and bladder.[pause] On the other hand,
sometimes something like a kidney stone or enlarged prostate can impede the flow of urine. Have you
ever suffered from anything like that?
Ms.Elsa Bennett: When you were admitted, you were incontinent of urine. Has that ever happened to
you before, Mr.Yazıcı ? Urinary incontinence?
Ms. Elsa Bennnett: Go a lot, sir ? So, you mean that you have had to urinate frequently and you said
that you have another problems while urinating, right? If it is right, I will take some notes and talk
about them with your physician Dr.Jackson. We need these information to diagnose your illness in a
right way and provide a better treatment.
Ms. Elsa Bennett: You don’t need to worry, sir. We’ll do our best about your treatment. But I need
more information and I will ask a couple of questions to take some more notes. Dr. Jackson will see
this information and diagnose about your situation. So, you ‘ll get better results from your
treatment. Well urinary frequency can be normal part of aging for people. But urinary incontinence,
and pinkish, strong-smelling urine is something a little different. Let’s talk about it for a minute. Do
you wake up to urinate suddenly especially in the mornings?
Ms.Elsa Bennett: I see, Sir. I hope you’ll get better soon and these problems’ll be solved… As I told
you, we’ll do our best for your health and well-being. I have some another questions. Do you ever
have difficulty starting a urine stream? Or stopping it? Or do you ever find that you dribble a bit when
you think you’ve finished urinating but actually you haven’t?
hissediyorum.
Ms.Elsa Bennett : Well, Mr.Yazıcı. I will tak about these symptoms to your physician. I am going to
tell Dr. Jackson about them on your behalf. You are being treated for UTI. The doctor has ordered an
antibiotic to relieve the infection and you can also have some ibuprofen if you need it. It has anti-
inflammatory and analgesic properties that can alleviate some of that pain for you and make you more
comfortable.
kalmaya devam edecek miyim?
Ms. Elsa Bennett: That’s great, Mr. Yazıcı. We’ll take another urine specimen and if the Dr. Jackson
suspects about kidneys we will apply cystoscopy. Cystoscopy is a diagnostic procedure that allows
your doctor to examine the lining of your bladder and the tube that carries urine out of your body. A
hollow tube equipped with a lens is inserted into your urethra and slowly advanced into your bladder.
But your Dr.Jackson will decide that it depends on his decision. You shouldn’t feel nervous, we are
trying to not cause a misdiagnosis. And we should think about any possibility that might occur about
your ilness. You’ll be here in short stay unit for 6 hours more, ın that time Dr. Jackson review your
situation and examine the notes I have taken today. Thank you for answering all my questions…
Arda Yazıcı: Asıl ben teşekkür ederim, Efendim. Umarım aksi bir durum yoktur ve Sistoskopi
olmama gerek kalmaz.
Ms. Elsa Bennet: If you need any help, you can pres this button and my nursing assistant Jenny will
visit you.
Mrs. Harrington: My period is two weeks late and I have inguinal pain.
Doktor: Anlıyorum. Daha önce de adetiniz gecikmiş miydi? Normalde adetiniz düzenli
midir?
Mrs. Harrington: Yes, my belly is getting hairy and my periods are very painful sometimes ı
even go to emergency service and they give me painkillers. Sometimes milk comes from my
chest. Actually, thats why I am here because it is a weird situation since I am not pregnant.
Mrs. Harrington: Yes, my sister is also suffering from extreme period pain but we thought it
was an ordinary situation since women around us always complain about period pain.
Mrs. Harrington: You are right, I must have come earlier. What kind of tests am I going
to have?
Doktor: Çünkü polikistik over sendromunun nedeni bazen hipofiz bezindeki iyi huylu
tümörlerdir ve bu tümörlerin boyutları önemlidir. Genellikle ilaç tedavisi ile küçültülüp yok
edilebilirler fakat bazı durumlarda operasyonla alınmaları gerekebilir. Bu ihtimali de göz
önünde bulundurarak MR çektirmenizi istiyorum.
Mrs. Harrington: Operation?! Omg! Is it risky? How long it takes? How long do I have to
stay in hospital?
Doktor: Öncelikle sakin olun. Bu sadece kontrol amaçlı bir MR. Dediğim gibi çoğu hastada
bu tümörler ilaç tedavisi ile yok edilebiliyor. Ayrıca operasyon da riskli bir operasyon değil
ve bir haftada taburcu oluyorsunuz. Daha önce birçok polikistik over hastam oldu. Şu an
yalnızca yapmanız gereken testleri yaptırmak ve bana güvenmek.
Mrs. Harrington: Okay, you are right. I am going to have the tests today.
Doktor: Pekala, testleri yaptırdıktan sonra vakit kaybetmeden bana gelin. Sonuçlara göre
tedavi sürecine karar vereceğiz.
Mrs. Harrington: All right, thank you for your help see you soon.

Mr. Yalçın, the parent of a son who is involved in a school fight, is visiting the school
counselor Mrs. Green to evaluate the situation and what to do. Mrs. Green is
concerned about the child's mental and behavioral status and trying to reach a
common ground. (G=Mrs. Green and Y=Mr. Yalçın)
G: Hi, Mr. Yalçın. How’s it going? I’m Mrs. Green, the school counselor.
Y: Merhaba, Bayan Green. Kusura bakmayın, iş yerimdeki sorunlardan dolayı daha erken
gelemedim. Afedersiniz.
G: That’s quite all right. Please take a seat. Mr. Yalçın. Today we are going to discuss about
the school fight that your son is involved in. Around 3 pm on May 22, following a verbal
dispute in the schoolyard, our student and your son İsmail Yalçın, age 11, and armed with a
stick, struck another student, Robert Wilson, in the face.
G: Yeah, ‘’armed’’. What? You don’t like the ‘’armed’’? What else could we say?
‘’Carrying’’ or ‘’holding’’?
G: Ok. Your son ‘’carrying’’ a stick struck our other student, Robert Wilson. In addition to
the swelling and bruising of Robert’s upper lip, this act also resulted in two broken incisors,
including nerve damage to the right incisor.
G: Yeah, Mr. Yalçın. Unfortunately, the situation is more serious than you think. Robert’s
parents are feeling awful about this and they are even thinking about filing a suit. Before
they are going to file a suit, I asked them to wait for a while. I told them if we can reach a
mutual understanding between the families, of course including an apology, it would be the
best for both our students and for our school’s reputation.
G: Mr. Yalçın, I don't think you're following what I’m saying. I'm trying my best here so
that they do not file a suit, but I do not approve your perspective on the situation. This has
nothing to do with being a “man”. The subject involves injury and battery. Which, as you
know, constitutes a criminal offense and also criminal sanction according to our law. These
can lead the situation even to your son’s expulsion from school. And also, as you know, this
is not the first case your son has been involved in. Do you understand what I'm saying?
Y: Bayan Green, tabii ki anlıyorum. Okuldan atılmak falan… Hiçbirimiz istemeyiz böyle
bir durumu. Zaten iş yerinde onca dert ile uğraşıyorum. Bence bu sorunu çözebiliriz.
Sonuçta medeni insanlarız. Benden ne yapmamı istiyorsunuz peki?
G: First, I want you to talk with your son about how wrong he has done. After telling him
that hurting someone is definitely wrong, I want you to tell him that he has to apologize for
what he has done. But I mean, not pretending, a real and sincere apology.
Y: Tabii tabii, eve gidince ilk işim onunla konuşmak olacak. Erkek adam özür dilemesini de
bilmeli sonuçta, haklısınız.
G: Mr. Yalçın, you’re still talking about manliness. I think that’s the root of the problem
with your son. Do you spend enough time with your son? Do you think letting him watch
boxing is helpful for him? The situation here is a child presumably with mental and
behavioral disorders and also an injured child.
G: Thank you. I want you to spend more time with your child and guide him to more
beneficial hobbies. We have talked enough about your son. Now we are going to talk about
what you should do. According to the medical report of Robert, Robert’s dental nerve is not
completely exposed. For now, they are not going to devitalize it. They want to give the
tooth a chance.
Y: Tabii ki. Kanal tedavisi falan olmaz umarım. Çok acı verici ve masraflı bir işlem
sonuçta.
G: Yes, indeed. There's an observation period while they give the nerve a chance to heal.
And he is going to need caps. Because you know, you can’t have implants until you’re 18.
So what I want from you to do is to pay for Robert’s all hospital and medical expenses.
G: Mr. Yalçın. You are not the victim here. And you haven’t figured out the severity of the
situation. If they file a suit, you may have to pay two or three times more than the hospital
expenses that you are afraid to pay. I mean, aside from your son’s possible expulsion from
school.
G: I’m glad to hear that. After you leave, I’m going to talk with Robert's family. I hope they
approach our agreement in a sensible way and no one will suffer more from this situation. I
also want you to do one more thing. Please tell your children to visit me at least once in a
week for guidance service. And if that’s possible please take him to a pediatrist. Thank you
for coming, I'll inform you again soon.

Hakim : Christian Young ne amaçla Türkiye’ye geldin?
Christian Young : I’m an industrial engineer and working in a firma. Last year, my manager
asked me to work in Turkey for a start-up. I accepted the proposal and came here six months
ago.
Hakim : Geçen sene teklif edilmişse neden altı ay sonra geliyorsun?
C. Young : It’s a project-based work. I don’t define the arrival date and I have a work permit.
Hakim : Davalının hareketlerinde bir kasıt gördün mü? Araba senin şahsına kayıtlı mı yoksa

C. Young : I couldn’t understand what was going on. It happened in a minute. I never saw this

Van’da 7.2 büyüklüğünde bir deprem oldu. Hala enkaz altında insanlarımız var. Yurtdışına
yardım çağrısı yapıldı. Yurtdışından gelen ekipleri Saha Operasyon Koordinasyon Masası’nda
karşılayacağız.
UFUK: Yardımlarınız için şimdiden teşekkür ediyoruz. Sizi durum hakkında kısaca
bilgilendireyim.
3. , 4. Ve 5. Bölgelerde yardıma ihtiyacımız var. Ekibinizle
ilgili bilgi alabilir miyim?
JAMES: I am here on behalf of Red Cross heavy search and Rescue team. Our team consist
of 6 people. We have our equipment we need with us. But we don’t have a place to stay or
any tents.
kurabilirsiniz. Çadırı olmayan ekiplere ise çadır tedarik edilecektir. Bu konuyla ilgilenecek
arkadaşımız size birazdan yardımcı olacak. Yalnız öncelikle belgelerinize göz atmam
gerekiyor. Belgeleriniz yanınızda, değil mi?
JAMES: I understand. We have a CBRN expert on our team. But we lack the necessary
equipment for CBRN. We would be delighted to help you if provided rhe necessary
equipment.

Patient: I have been traveling here for one week and feeling a little bit tired but I know this is
quite normal, because I barely get rest during my trips. But last night I started to feel a dull
pain near my bellybutton and the upper areas that become sharp. First i thought it was because
of the Turkish food I tried yesterday but it didn’t felt like a stomach ache.
Patient: I think more than 18 hours because it started like 2 or 3 p.m. It was not serious at first
but I was scared because yes I vomitted right after the pain began. I did not have fever or
difficulty passing urine but I have diarrhea with gas. So I felt like something was wrong with
me.
Patient: Thank you Doctor, I will be back when I get the results.
Patient: How long does this operation last? How long do i have to stay in the hospital? I have
two more weeks to spend here in Turkey but I want to know how long my recovery will take
after this surgery? I’m already feeling a little bit nervous because it’s my very first operation.
Patient: Thank you Doctor. I want to call my friends because I will need them with me while
spending the night here. It will be a strange experience but it’s fine, I will be okay. Of course,
I can not live with this pain.
Anestezist: Ben anestezistiniz, size ameliyat öncesi birkaç soru sorup ameliyat sonrası ile
ilgili bazı bilgiler vereceğim. Hazırlıkların ardından anestezi uygulayacağız, endişelenmeyin.
Kullandığınız düzenli ilaçlar var mı? Operasyon sırasında veya sonrasında kanama riski
açısından bilmemiz gerek.
Patient: I was taking anticoagulants but it was two months ago. Now I don’t take pills
regularly, I just take painkillers sometimes and that’s all. And I think I’m going to be asked if
I drink alcohol, the answer is no, it has been a year since I stopped drinking alcohol.
Patient: The last time I urinated was 3 hours ago, i think. But I feel like i have to go again
soon. I have loss of appetite and drink only water since last night.
Patient: I understand, how long will it take to regain senses or counsciousness after
anaesthesia? You mentioned the medication after the operation against any infection, are they
antibiotics? Nevermind, I think I should let myself go and just get relaxed. Thank you for
everything.

Card Trapping. Mr. Rajesh was visiting his Sister who is currently residing in İstanbul. He is
arrested for vandalism and card trapping charges and is asked to clarify what exactly
happened that night. Mr. Rajesh insists that there is a misunderstanding. He is questioned by
Commissaire Murat Dağlayan about the charges.
Mr.R.: No, they were in my wallet and I forgot my wallet when I left the cab. Actually, the
reason why I’m here is exactly that.
Comm.: O kısımlara daha sonra geleceğiz. Haklarınızı ve buraya neden getirildiğinizi biliyor
musunuz?
Mr.R.: Yes, I know my rights and I tried to explain to other officers that there is a
misunderstanding.
Comm.: Hakkınızda banka mülküne zarar verme ve kredi kartı dolandırıcılığı iddiaları
bulunmakta.
Mr.R.: I deny planning a credit card fraud but I accept that I damaged the Bank property and
I am willing to pay for the damages that I caused.
Mr.R.: Well that night I was visiting my sister, who lives 2 blocks down that
ATM you mentioned. I took a cab from the airport to her place but unfortunately after I paid
and left the cab I realised that I forgot my wallet on the backseat, but it was too late.
Comm.: Taksinin plakasını hatırlıyor musunuz?
Mr.R.: Unfortunately, no. It was after a 9-hour flight and I was so tired. Anyway, I was trying
to draw money from the ATM and it got stuck.
Comm.: Biraz önceki ifadenizde cüzdanınızı takside unuttuğunuzu söylediniz. Kredi kartını
nereden buldunuz?
Mr.R.: It was my sister’s card. I was visiting Istanbul in order to meet with her in the first
place. After I left the cab, I went to my sister's apartment I told her what happened and she
offered me her credit card. She told me that there is an ATM nearby that I can withdraw
money from.
Mr.R.: Exactly. Well after I took her advice and went for the ATM, I saw a weird looking man
in front of the ATM and he had a screwdriver in his hand.
Comm.: Adamın yüzünü gördünüz mü? Onu tekrar görürseniz tanır mısınız veya tarif edebilir
misiniz?
Mr.R.: Well it was too dark so I couldn’t see his face and I was in a hurry. I thought it was
nothing and proceeded to withdraw money. Everything was fine until the ATM wouldn't
release the damn card.
Mr.R.: Well I figured that the shady guy had something to do with that and I got angry. First,
I try to reach it with my nails but I couldn't.
Mr.R.: Yes! I am the victim here. All I was trying to do was getting my card back.
Comm.: Anlıyorum ancak anlattıklarınız mülke zarar iddialarını açıklamıyor. Neden ATM’yi
tekmelediniz?
Mr.R.: I was so angry and didn't know what to do. I just lost it for a moment and I am truly
sorry about that. Like I mentioned before, I am willing to cover the damages.
Comm.: Talihsiz bir gece olmuş. Memur arkadaşlar kimlik bilgilerinizi doğruladıktan sonra
sizi mahkemeye sevk edecekler. Bu süre içerisinde misafirimizsiniz.
Mr.R.: Thank you very much for listening to me. I’m sure you will catch the guys behind it as
soon as possible.

Teacher: Merhaba, nasılsınız bayan Black? Bu veli toplantısına katılımınız bizim için çok
önemli. Çünkü sizinle oğlunuz Oliver hakkında konuşmak istediğim bazı sorunlar var. Bu
sorunları ortak bir dayanışmayla çözebileceğimizi umuyorum. Öncelikle son zamanlarda
Oliver’ın arkadaşlarıyla sürekli kavga ettiğini üzülerek belirtmek zorundayım. Durumdan
haberiniz var mıydı?
Miss Black: Hello, Miss Selin. I'm fine, thank you. As you know I have divorced my husband
and moved here from the UK and my son is very upset because of this situation, he is always
rowing with me in the house and he is getting psychological support to solve this problem.
But I didn't know anything about the fights at school because Oliver didn’t mention before.
Miss Black: In fact, Oliver had a calmer mood when we moved to Turkey. I thought that he
didn’t care about our divorce and moving to a different country. Then I realized that he was
spending more time on his computer than usual. He looks like a computer addict these days.
He doesn’t study anything anymore.
olabilir.
Miss Black: I can guess that Oliver has been negatively affected in a lot of ways. He didn’t
mention any applications in his computer. But when we came here, he did not know Turkish
very well and had a difficulty while finding new friends. He couldn’t be a successful student
in Turkey because the teachers instruct the lessons in Turkish and he lived an unlucky
orientation period. He used to be the most successful student in his own school in England. I
guess that all of these problems prompted to social media for finding new friends and evading
the issues.
Miss Black: My husband and I divorced due to the incompatibility of temperament. I don't
want to make any contact with him. Because he was indifferent to me and Oliver’s problems
throughout our marriage. We moved here to live away from him. For these reasons, I didn’t
mention to him about my son's school problems or any of his struggles. Oliver and my-ex
husband are only talking on the phone, and it's worth mentioning that these talks are too short.
Miss Black: In fact, my son is very reluctant to share his problems with his psychologist. But,
of course, such a meeting can help us understand the source of problems and solve them.
That's why I'm going to call the psychologist without a moment to spare and mention to
him about your offer. I would like to solve my son’s problems immediately and help him
get into a good university. Thank you very much for helping me with this situation.

Suspect: Yok,
istemiyorum.
Officer: Right, you’ve been arrested for Assault. Did you do it?
Officer: You have been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm,
namely causing injury in contravention of section 47 of the Offences Against
the Persons Act 1861. Did you cause injury to Gary?
Suspect: Evet, ne yazık ki öyle oldu. Kargaşa içinde iki, üç sert darbe yedi benden.
Officer: Gary has been examined by the Doctor who has reported that the injuries
sustained are a nasal fracture and bruising to the left eye. I am showing you
photograph exhibit number 051. Did you cause these injuries?
Officer: Well, what about these still shots from CCTV, exhibit 051. They show you
hitting Gary in the face and Gary falling to the ground and then you kicking
Gary. Did you kick him in the face as well?
Suspect: Şimdi, ne bileyim, kestiremedim yani. Sinirdendir, pek bir şey hatırlamıyorum.
Officer: Would you agree that the pictures I’ve shown you are of you assaulting Gary
and kicking him whilst he’s on the ground?
Officer: Okay. The time is now 15:36. I will now provide you with necessary forms to
request a solicitor and with information abot the process ahead of you, if you
please.
Suspect:
Teşekkürler.

Suzan Kelli is an immigrant farmworker prepares for the birth of her first child in the
US. Suzan, who undergoes prenatal checks, faces an unexpected health problem. The
control process one week before the birth is as
follows.
D: Welcome, Mrs. Kelli. Let's start with measuring your weight as usual.
D: This is done to measure how many weeks the baby is. We're doing a measurement starting
from the bottom of his belly. This gives us an average information. We measure the ratio of
the size of the baby with the week of pregnancy. These measures may be below or above two
of the pregnancy week. I'm currently measuring 35.5. How many weeks pregnant are you?
H: 37 hafta.
D: It's a Doppler. It shows 135. Pretty good. Do you have complaints such as uterus or waist
pain?
H: Evet, dün hayatımda ilk defa ağrım oldu. Dün gece uyumaya çalışırken birdenbire ağrım
başladı. Ve bütün gece boyunca da sürdü.
H: Dün sanki o kadar hareket etmiyor gibiydi. Ama normalde çok hareketlidir.
D: This sounds like braxton hick’s sign (prenatal preparation). Sometimes, if your belly is too
tense and it gives a bit of pain, it's more braxton hick’s sign. Are there other symptoms like
vomiting?
H: Hayır, yok.
D: Whenever you feel that the baby doesn't move, I want you to drink something sweet and
lie down for 1 hour on your left. At this time, things like the phone etc. shouldn't be around. I
want you to count the motions for 1 hour. You must feel 10 motions in 1 hour. If you don't, it's
an important issue. Then we'll have to check it out. Let's check the liquid right now.
D: I don't think it liked that. Baby's head down, weight normal, fluid level normal. The baby's
moving, everything seems to be all right. Most of the time babies get stuck in these periods.
Therefore, it is difficult to see its face in this period of pregnancy. Look, it looks like a
forehead. Its nose and upper lip.
D: Two weeks if I make a prediction. Look here's the baby's feet. It probably should be
kicking your ribs, right?
D: Control is almost over. Today, the baby appears to be 36 weeks and 3 days in size. The
average weight is around 6 pounds. 2.8 kilograms. There may be some deviations in
ultrasound measurements. In the meantime, we need to do some tests before birth. I will
check your blood pressure. Is there another problem?
D: We got the results of your tests. I would recommend that we do the cesarean section as
soon as possible. You ultimately have the diagnosis of preeclampsia by having high protein
levels in your urine and then with your blood pressure. Preeclampsia is a condition that
occurs only during pregnancy. Some symptoms of preeclampsia may include high blood
pressure and protein in the urine, occurring after week 20 of
pregnancy. Preeclampsia is often precluded by gestational hypertension.
D: Because the birth is close and the development of the baby is sufficient, we have to
give birth as soon as possible. If we don't do this, it can lead to serious complications for
you such as liver or renal failure and future cardiovascular
issues. This can also lead to other diseases such as eclampsia or HELLP syndrome
(hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelet count).
D: Preeclampsia can prevent the placenta from getting enough blood. If the
placenta doesn’t get enough blood, your baby gets less oxygen and food. This can result in
low birth weight. Most women still can deliver a healthy baby if
preeclampsia is detected early and treated with regular prenatal care.
H: I trust you.
21. Ecem Serenay Uçan
(Scene: The Canadian tourist walks into a pharmacy with the symptoms of flu and
wants some advice, and the bilingual employee helps with the communication between
the tourist and pharmacist.)
Customer: I have fever like my entire body is on fire, and my nose just never stops running. I
also feel heavy dizziness.
Customer: Oh, no I don’t like using antibiotics anyway. The over the counter medicine is just
fine, like I said, I just want to enjoy the last days of vacation outside of my hotel bed. How
should I use them?
kullanmaya devam edin. Eğer gece ilaç almayı unutursanız sabah iki tane almayın tehlikeli
olur, kaldığınız yerden devam edin.
Customer: Okay, is it safe to take it with Advil?
Pharmacist: Mümkünse hayır, ağrı kesicilerle karıştırmak ağır yan etkilere sebep olabilir.
Customer: No painkillers?! How am I supposed to live without my daily Advil when I am
dealing with this much stress? Well, I think I have no other choice than trusting you about
feeling better soon. I should have listened my mother about the weather of this country…
Anyways, are there any side effects of this medication, other than making me feel already
miserable?
Pharmacist: Nadiren de olsa dikkat dağınıklığı, baş dönmesi, bulanık görme, mide ağrısı,
mide bulantısı, gerginlik ve kabızlık görülebilir. Yorucu fiziksel aktivitelerden ve araç
kullanımından uzak durmanız tavsiye edilir.
Customer: I am taking this antidepressant pill which has almost the same side effects. Do
you think is it safe to use these medications combined? Because my doctor told me to stay
away from any type of medication that can cause drowsiness, dizziness, sight problems and
neural effects because they can trigger my anxiety or worsen it. I cannot imagine a vacation
with this heavy flu and my lovely anxiety which really enjoys destroying every single nice
thing that I ever have.
Pharmacist: Daha önce böyle bir ilaç etkileşimi durumu yaşadınız mı?
Customer: Yes, I have. Once I got this really terrible nausea and my doctor was not available,
so I went to the pharmacy just like this time, but I forgot to mention about my antidepressant.
Then the pharmacist gave me a pill to relieve my stomach and it relieved my symptoms, but it
made me feel really ill both physically and mentally. I called my doctor immediately and he
explained to me the situation and told me to stop taking the stomach pill.
olsun.
Customer: Is there anything else that I should be careful when using or taking? I was
planning to drink at the hotel tonight for example, does alcohol cause any problem?
tehlikeli olabilir.
Customer: Oh okay, goodbye my dreams about getting out of bed then. Even if it’s rare, I
know that I will experience every single one of the side effects since I have this most sensitive
and fragile body and its systems. Can I pay with my credit card?
Customer: Not with anything legal, so thank you.
Pharmacist: Pekala, Buyrun fişiniz.
Customer: You can keep it.

Senaryo?
Officer: Hello. How are you?
Tourist: Merhaba. İyiyiz, teşekkür ederiz. Biraz endişeliyiz.
Officer: Yes, I see that you have entered Crotia without a visa.
Turist 1: Vizemiz var ancak Avrupa Birliğinin Schengen vizesi. Bunun Hırvatistan’da
sayılmadığını bilmiyorduk.
Officer: Crotia does not belong to Schengen zone. Citizens of EU, the U.S., Canada,
Australia and New Zealand do not need visa to enter. However you are a citizen of Turkey.
Your visa is single entry and you have entered Crotia from Hungarian border, which is your
transit country. Crotia requires multiple or dual entry visa according to EU and Crotia
accordance.
Turist 2: Benim Macaristan’dan aldığım oturma iznim var, ben girebiliyor muyum?
Officer: If you have temporary or permanent residence permit from EU countries you can
enter.
Officer: Hungarian embassy gave your cousin a single entry visa. I cannot do any exceptions as
I said, you cannot enter Crotia. But here I see that your single entry visa is also expired. You
cannot go back to Hungary either.
Officer: You need to wait at the holding center until we contact Turkish Embassy. But since
you are a permanent resident, you can proceed and enter Crotia or go back to Hungary.
Biz sadece gezmek istiyorduk.
Officer: Every country has the right of interception if the person does not carry the right
documents to enter. There is nothing unconstitutional or against human rights.
Officer: I do not think they can say anything more than I did. Your situation is voluntary
repatriation, which does not require an attorney.
Officer: Today is the national holiday of Crotia. Every institution is on holiday leave. You are
going to have to wait for two days. During that time, I am going to investigate your domicile.
Can you write down your addresses?
Officer: That is not likely. If you are tourists who made a simple mistake as you claimed, you
can go back to your own country in no time.
Officer: If Bona fide applicant’s get deported, it does not get registered.
Officer: Our officer will escort you to the Holing Center. Please wait there until further
noticer.
Senaryo?
The Court: At the outset, Mr. Yılmaz, I wanted you to know, which I think you do, I have
arranged for a Turkish Interpreter.
Attorney: First, your Honor, thank you. It’s always a privilege to appear here.
The Court: First, I would like Mr Yılmaz to tell what it happened on May 23rd in
Birmingham. As you see your passport, you dont live in our country UK and you live in
Turkey and are a citizen of Turkey. Why do you visit UK? What’s your purpose of visit?
What’s your occupation in Turkey?
Asla Yılmaz: Merhaba Hakim bey. Öncelikle tercüman talebimi yerine getirdiğiniz için
teşekkür ederim. Ben normalde bir kaynak ustasıyım. Ülkenize gelme sebebim aslında
kardeşimin düğününe katılmak içindi. Turist vizesiyle ve davetiyle vize başvurusu yaptım. 20
The Court: Why did you fire the pistol in public sphere and without special permission?
The Court: Didn’t you know here’s another country and they have their own laws? Didn’t
anybody, particularly your brother, warn you this’s a crime?
The Court: How and when did you get the pistol? Who supplied it for you?
Attorney: As he said, my client was not aware of that firing a gun in public sphere’s a crime
because that he doesn’t live in UK. As he stated, this is a tradition in his country. We request
that you consider these conditions, as you give the verdict, your Honor.
The Court: The court has considered the Defendant’s statements and Attorney’s requests and
expert opinions. The Defendant violated the United Kingdom laws by firing a gun in public
sphere and without permission, which causes fear and panic in public sphere. By taking into
consideration of Defendant’s special situation, which he doesn’t live in UK and is just a
tourist and this act is a tradition in Defendant’s country, as expert opinion shows, the Court
gave verdict to be released on bail of Mr.Yılmaz. The Court estimated the amount of ball as
£3000.

Police Officer: This interview is being recorded at Wilkingsburg Police Station in Pittsburgh.

we need to carry on and ask you some more questions.
Bora: Suan gercekten hicbir sey anlamiyorum. Onun ismini anmadan yeniden aciklar misiniz,
