 Contact with the buyer: This is the first step come under the section of merchandising.

To accomplish the core responsibilities of merchandising, effective communication is essential.


In this stage, Buyer will enquire about the proto type and other details regarding
production and order then merchandiser will explain about these all to attract the
order and also he will note about the buyers preferences and requirements regarding the
product they want. Then the buyer will request for proto type. This communication maybe
direct and indirect.

 Proto sample submission: Here, merchandiser will send the proto sample developed
based on the order sheet given by the buyer. The buyer then will check it whether the
measurement, fit, quality and construction are suits their demands or not. The buyer will give
confirmation for order if they satisfied with the prototype. The objectives of this sample
submission is for confirming the cost, showcase the manufacturing capability of the firm, to
get approval for the product style from buyer, to get an overall idea about the product
requirements and to work on the profitability margins etc. The merchandiser will confirm
the proto sample approval to start the actual production.

 Order confirmation: The merchandiser will check the approval and confirm buyer’s order
to start production. Here Once the order is confirmed then we start doing our planning for
our production like how many pieces are to be made how many days it will take all such
calculation already been shown in below.
 Trims and art work sending and confirm approval: Once the order confirmed and
trims and art work developed, it will be send to the concerned department to get approval
and the merchandiser will confirm the approval to proceed further.

 Lab dip sending and confirm approval: Lab dip is a specimen of dyed fabric or yarns
prepared for color approval. They provide shade reference to the fabric mills / fabric
manufacturers) and collect the dyed fabric from the fabric mills. The merchandiser first checks
the lap dip sample by themselves. Fabric manufacturers normally give lab dip samples to the
buyers for approval before the bulk production of fabric. Generally, lab dip will help to visualize
the total fabric color after bulk production. Therefore, lab dip approval from a buyer is
essential for an order execution.

 Sample trims and finished fabric arranging: Once get the approval of lab dip, the next step is
sending the request for sample trims and fabric. Here the merchandiser will arrange the trims and
finished fabric to develop the fit sample for buyer. The trims and fabric will be on the basis of buyer’s
preferences.
