Title

WIRELESS ACCESS POINT (WAP/TP LINK) CONFIGURATION (Client PC)

Learning Objectives:
After reading this INFORMATION SHEET, YOU MUST be able to:
1. Define Wireless Access Point.
2. Identify the procedures on how to configure the WAP.
3. Demonstrate how to configure the WAP.

WIRELESS ACCESS POINT

 Wireless access point (WAP), or more generally just access point (AP), is a
networking hardware device that allows other Wi-Fi devices to connect to a wired
network.
 The AP usually connects to a router (via a wired network) as a standalone
device, but it can also be an integral component of the router itself.
 An AP is differentiated from a hotspot, which is the physical location where Wi-Fi
access to a WLAN is available.
WAP/TP LINK CONFIGURATION (Client PC)
1. Reset WAP
2. Go to client 
3. Go to cmd
4. Type”ipconfig/all”
Find the DHCP server IP address
Example (192.168.0.254)
5. Set your address of your LAN to Static (192.168.0.50)note: use same network ID
of your WAP.
6. Go to Web browser, type IP address (DHCP server= Default IP address of your
WAP)
7. Type the default username and password(admin) to login
8. (Quick Set-up) Click Next.
9. Set WAP to AP then next.
10. Use your family name as your SSID, set Wireless Security Mode to WPA/WPA2
& Set Wi-Fi password with at least 8 characters (12345678) and click Next.

11. Disable DHCP & Click Next


12. Access again or login to check DHCP, Find Network LAN setup & Disable DHCP
server then save and close.
13. Set your LAN IP to Dynamic (obtain IP)

ADDING OF  ROLES (SERVER PC)


1. ACTIVE DIRECTORY AND DOMAIN SERVICES
 Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) is a server role in Active
Directory that allows admins to manage and store information about
resources from a network, as well as application data, in a distributed
database.

PROCEDURES IN ADDING ROLES IN ADDS

1. Click Server Manager


2. Click roles

3. Click Next
4. Click the check box under the Active Directory and Domain Services and click
next.

5. Click Next
6. Click Install

7. Click close.

2. DOMAIN NAME SYSTEM(DNS)


 The Domain Name System (DNS) is a hierarchical and decentralized
naming system for computers, services, or other resources connected to
the Internet or a private network. It associates various information with
domain names assigned to each of the participating entities.

PROCEDURES IN ADDING ROLES IN DOMAIN NAME SYSTEM

1. Press Windows +R and type “dcpromo” and click ok.


2. Click next
3. Click Next

4. Select create  a new domain in a new forest and click next.


5. Create a domain name (glimmers.com) and click next.
6. Select Windows Server 2008 R2 and click Next.
7. Click next

8. Click yes
9. Click next

10. Create password and click next.


11. Click next
12. Select Reboot on computer (automatically restart).
CONFIGURING DNS Reverse  Lookup Zone

1. Navigate to start, Administrative tools, DNS.


2. Expand Server, the select Reverse Lookup Zone

3. Right click select new zone.


4. Click next 

5.Click next, next then enter the last digit on the IP address
6. Click reverse, next and click finish.

7. Click the created new zone

8. Right click inside of it. And select new pointer. Complete the Host IP Address then
type server.networking.local and click ok.
 

9. Click Server then select Lunch nslookup and click the reverse look up you created

and close.

3. DYNAMIC HOST CONFIGURATION PROTOCOL(DHCP)

1. DHCP's purpose is to enable individual computers on an IP network to extract


their configurations from a server (the DHCP server) or servers, in particular,
servers that have no exact information about the individual computers until they
request the information.

1. Before  adding DHCP roles, Double check your DNS IP address.


2. Set your DNS Server. Your DNS Server must be the same with your IP address.
3. Open the Server Manager

4. Click Next

5. Select DHCP Server and Click Next


6. Click Next
7. Click Next

8. CLICK VALIDATE (your preferred DNS must be valid ) and click Next

9. Click Next
10. Click Add and Set your Scope Name, Starting IP address and ending IP Address

and click OK
Note: for your Scope
Use the same Network ID with your WAP default IP address for your Starting IP
address and ending IP address.

11. Click Next

12. Disable DHCPv6 and click Next


13. Click Install

14. Click close


4. INSTALLING FILES SERVICES 
1. Format Drive D.

2. Open the server manager, click add roles.

3. Click next then check files services


4. Click next, next, then check file server resource manager and window search service.

5. Click next, files(D:) then  next.

6. Click next, next files D: then next.


7. Click next then click install.

8. Click close after installation.

9. Open Drive D: then create a folder name USER

 
10. Inside the USER folder create a folder with file name STUDENTS.

11. Right click STUDENTS, then click properties.

12. Click sharing, advanced sharing, check this folder and click permissions. 

13. Click Remove button, then click add,


14. Click advanced 

15. Click Find now 


16.Find Domain User then select

17. Click ok, then add. Check Full control and change.

18. Click apply and ok.


19. Click caching

20. Select no files, and click ok.  

21. Click apply and ok and close.


22. Go to start, administrative tools, file server resource

manager 

23. Expand File Screening Management

24. Click File screens, dialog box will appear 


25. Click browse

26. Select a folder and find the students folder, then click ok.

27. Select Define Custom file screen properties. Then click Custom Properties button…
28. Click Audio and video files and Executable files.

29. Click ok and click create.

30. Select save custom file screen the click ok.

 
CONFIGURE NTFS PERMISSION
1. Navigate to drive D:Open the Folder you created which is the USER\Students. Right

click the properties.

2. Click security
3. Click advance, change permission, uncheck inheritable permissions.

4. Click add, select users(read & execute) and edit.


5. Select this folder only and click ok.

Note: Repeat the procedures,4 and 5 for the users(special). Then click apply, ok, ok and
close.

1. (Creating folder)right click, click new and select folder.

1. Click start, Administrative tools and Group Policy Management.

2. Double Click forest (domain name)


3. Double Click Domains

4. Double Click your Domain name (glimmers.com)


5. Right click under your organizational unit and select create a GPO in the domain, and

link.

6. Type your redirection name and click ok.

7. Double click your organizational unit and right click your GPO and select edit.
8. Double click policies (under user configuration)

9. Double click windows settings.
