Direction: Answer the following open-ended questions with the best of your ability.

“Successful and unsuccessful people do not vary greatly in their abilities.

They vary in their desires to reach their potential.” – John Maxwell

Task 1:
Answer the following questions:

1. What do you observe in the lesson Good Citizenship Values? Why do you say so?

2. In your own words, define good citizenship values.

3. How do you show your faith in the Almighty God? According to the discussion of Maka-Diyos
in this module, what is the first step that you should do to show faith in the Almighty God?

4. How can you show your respect for life?

5. Have you ever been in love? Do you feel you are loved?

6. What is your standard of love?

7. The Golden Rule says “Do unto others what you want others do unto you”. What do you think
is the standard of love if we consider this rule?

8. As a future educator, how will you advocate social justice among your students and
colleagues?

Task 2:
Instructions:
1. Cite personal incidents / moments in your life that you feel you have become:

a. Maka-Diyos
- I’m very religious person, and I always follow all the morals in the church. I’m
Christian and I do believe in Christ. I always offer my skills, strength and time in the
church to be able to help in our community.

b. Makatao
- Being makatao in my own opinion, comes with being fair with every person living on
a community. I’m not speaking or looking to anybody as if I’m better than them, but,
I always look them fairly. To be human, is to care for other people too.

c. Makakalikasan
- Our lifestyle is very dependent to the environment. If there is nothing to offer from
the environment, then it will greatly affect our own lifestyle. A better environment
can give us better way of living. When I’m going out to exercise, most likely in a
park, I always pick some trash that I will pass by, and throw it to a nearby garbage
can.

d. Makabansa/Makabayan
- Being makabansa demonstrates the pride of a Filipino person. I always promote
appreciation for our own language. I respect each other cultures as if they are my
culture. When the flag is raised, I always stopped by and put some respect to our
own flag that symbolizes our country.

2. Explain the details. What have you learned and realized out from that experience?

These types of moments made me realized that a person must acquire all of these to become a better
person. If we will not have these values, we will not have a unity in this country. We must step up and
apply all of this to our everyday lives. With these, it will help us to become a productive citizen of our
nation and a good follower in our Lord.

Task 3:
Instructions:

1. Identify at least five (5) strengths of Filipino character that you think you possess. Why do you
say so?

 Hard work and Industry

- Entering from a state university is very difficult. Despite of this difficulties, hard work and
industry leads me to where I am right now.

 Joy and Humor

- I always find humor in everything. It sheds light for positivity and optimism in everything I do.
Even on those struggles, I always find joy.

 Family Oriented
- Since my parents have high standards for me, I always choose to follow every order and
everything they told me to do. With this, I am very disciplined especially on my academics.

 Faith and Religiosity

- I grew up, learning all moral codes in our church since I was a child. It made me competent on
my social status and it adjusted my psychological thinking of the things that I should and
shouldn’t do.

 Flexibility and Adaptability

- I am very flexible in doing a specific task at times, even when it is time-bound. This allows me to
think creatively and flexible enough to do whatever task I have to do.

3. Identify at least five (5) weaknesses of Filipino character that you think you possess. What
are the steps do you take to change these weaknesses into strength?

 Mañana Habit
- This habit is very prominent as a Filipino. This is another term for procrastination. I always say,
“mamaya na”, “bukas nalang”. Without knowing that this is a very negative trait, it affected
some aspects in my life including mood and bad decision making.

 Ningas Kugon
- This is one of my negative traits in doing a specific task. As my task progress, my interest on
doing this task is decreasing that’s why sometimes my productivity is affected to.

 Shame
- My shame is very associated with my own self-esteem and hostility. Asking questions to a
stranger is very difficult for me, because I don’t know what to say when I’m in front of them.

 Lack of Discipline
- Every time I do something, I am easily distracted with other things, because I lack discipline on
myself. Time is wasted because of this, and I’m being unproductive in doing something.

 Extreme Family Centeredness

- My family have high standards and demands. With this, I’m slowly forgetting about myself and
focus on doing what they want me to do.
