ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to explore the involvement of families in handling former
drug addicts in Negeri Sembilan. The objectives of this study are to explore the
involvement of family members in handling former drug addicts, understanding the
challenges and strategies in handling former drug addicts. The method of this study is
using qualitative case study. The procedure of data collection was carried out by
utilizing the semi-structured interview protocol. Seven participants consist of four
family members and three former drug addicts are selected by using the purposive
sampling. The result indicated that the involvement of families in handling former
drug addicts is an adaptation family process. Families are finding themselves facing
challenges in handling former drug addicts usually caused by the internal and
external influences. To overcome the challenges in handling former drug addicts,
every family has their own strategy which is creating the psychosocial interventions
including behavior, personality and environment. As a conclusion, the family has to
be closer to former drug addicts to give them motivation in order to continue living
their life. The implication of the study could enhance the understanding and family
interventions in handling former drug addicts.
