DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

1. General
A. The air conditioning panel assembly has one of the De Havilland Canada part numbers 82410150−
003, −005, −011, −019, −023, −029, −033, −035, −037, −041, 8Z2919−001, 8Z3775−001 or
8Z0470−053. The panel assembly is installed in the overhead console in the flight compartment of
the aircraft.

2. Description
Refer to Figure 1 and to Figure 2.
A. The air conditioning panel assembly, contains eight toggle switches (or seven toggle switches for
panel assembly: 82410150−023, −029, −033, −035, −037 and −041), two selector switches (or one
selector switch and one potentiometer for panel assembly: 82410150−011, −019, −023, −029, −033,
−035, −037, −041, 8Z2919−001, 8Z3775−001 and 8Z0470−053), one rheostat and one temperature
indicator that are identified as follows:
– A one−pole toggle switch identified as RECIRC with selections of OFF and RECIRC
– A one−pole toggle switch identified as BLEED 1 with selections of OFF and BLEED
– A one−pole toggle switch identified as BLEED 2 with selections of OFF and BLEED
– For panel assembly 82410150−003, −005, −011, −019, 8Z2919−001 and 8Z3775−001: a one−
pole toggle switch identified as FC FAN with selections of OFF and FC FAN
– For panel assembly 8Z0470−053: an one−pole toggle switch identified as GROUND FAN with
selections of OFF and GROUND FAN
– A bleed control switch rheostat identified as BLEED with selections of MIN and MAX
– A two−pole cabin temperature manual control toggle switches identified as COOL/WARM with
selections of COOL, WARM and center mechanically−held position (off)
– A two−pole flight compartment temperature manual control toggle switch identified as
COOL/WARM with selections of COOL, WARM and center mechanically−held position (off)
– A two−pole cabin temperature control toggle switch identified as MANUAL/AUTO with selections
of MANUAL and AUTO
– A two−pole flight compartment control toggle switch identified as MANUAL/AUTO with
selections of MANUAL and AUTO
– For panel assembly 82410150−003, −005: a temperature control selector switch identified as
CABIN with selections of COOL and WARM
– For panel assembly 82410150−011, −019, −023, −029, −033, −035, −037, −041, 8Z0470−053,
8Z2919−001 and 8Z3775−001: a temperature control potentiometer switch identified as CABIN
with selections of F/A, COOL and WARM
– A temperature control selector switch identified as FLT COMP with selections identified as
COOL and WARM

– A cabin temperature indicator.

B. The air conditioning panel assembly also includes the items that follow:
– A plexi−glass facing panel
– A backing panel
– A connector mounting plate
– Three connectors (two for the panel and one for the integral lighting)
– Three spacers
– A cover assembly
– Associated wiring
– Attachment hardware.

3. Operation
A. RECIRC Toggle Switch
When the RECIRC toggle switch is set to the RECIRC position, the recirculation fan operates. The
fan starts at slow speed to reduce initial current draw then changes to high speed.
B. BLEED 1 and 2 Toggle Switches
The air conditioning system is started by selecting the toggle switches to BLEED 1 and/or BLEED 2
(or the BL AIR switchlight on the APU CONTROL Panel). BLEED 1 takes bleed air from the left
engine for use in the ECS (Environmental Control System) and BLEED 2 takes bleed air from the
right engine.
C. FC FAN Toggle Switch
For panel assembly 82410150−003, −005, −011, −019, 8Z2919−001 and 8Z3775−001: when the
aircraft left and right main gear weight on wheels and the FC FAN toggle switch is set to the FC FAN
position, the flight compartment fan operates. The fan pulls air from the nose gear wheel well and
routes it to the two flight compartment air distribution sub−systems.
D. GROUND FAN Toggle Switch
For panel assembly 8Z0470−053: when the aircraft is on ground and the GROUND FAN toggle
switch is set to the GROUND FAN position, the fan operates. The fan pulls ground air from the
ground air intake port and routes it to the cabin and flight compartment through the normal air
distribution system.
E. BLEED Control Switch Rheostat
The BLEED control switch rheostat controls the flow control servo in each nacelle. Adjustment of the
BLEED control switch causes change in the bleed flow rate through the pressure regulator and
shut−off valves. The BLEED rheostat can be set to either MIN or MAX to set the desired flow rate.

The air conditioning controls include a CABIN DUCT temperature indicator and switches for cabin
and flight compartment temperature control. Temperature in the cabin and flight compartment can
be controlled either automatically or manually by selection of the two switches marked MANUAL /
AUTO.
In the automatic mode, the cabin and flight compartment MANUAL / AUTO toggle switches on the
air conditioning panel are positioned at AUTO and, the CABIN and FLT COMP potentiometer
switches rotates toward COOL or WARM as necessary to get the regulated air at the desired
temperature.
For panel assembly 82410150−011, −019, −023, −029, −033, −035, −037, −041, 8Z0470−053,
8Z2919−001 and 8Z3775−001: CABIN potentiometer switch has a detent (off) position at the COOL
limit , marked with F/A (Flight Attendant). Cabin temperature control can be transferred to the flight
attendant’s control panel, when the flight compartment CABIN potentiometer switch is moved fully
counter−clockwise to the F/A position.
In the manual mode, the cabin and flight compartment MANUAL/AUTO toggle switches on the air
conditioning panel are positioned at MANUAL and, the required cabin and flight compartment
temperature is obtained by adjusting the cabin and flight compartment momentarily−on
COOL/WARM toggle switches between COOL and WARM.
A cabin duct temperature indicator is installed to monitor the temperature of the conditioned air
supplied to the cabin. A zone temperature sensor in the cabin compartment is used as an indication
sensor that supplies the cabin temperature signal to the temperature indicator. The zone supply
indication sensors located in the cabin supply ducts and flight compartment supply ducts near the
zone supply temperature sensors, send the supply duct temperature signals to the temperature
indicator.
