MY FIRST EXPERIENCE AT NDEJJE UNIVERSITY

My name is KAZARWA SEZI and I’ve been studying at Ndejje University and this is my first
semester. Friends and mentors helped me to find this university and apply here. Studying in such a
recognized University has always been my dream since my high school year. I know that many other
future and current students have the same dream. That is why I want to share my experiences so far
besides course work.

On the first days I was quite excited. Everything was new and unfamiliar. The “Orientation Leaders”
were very helpful and I was able to meet many nice people on the first days. That made everything a bit
easier. During the Orientation week my Academic Advisor helped me to put together my timetable. My
course is BSWSA. I have selected relatively simple course units for my first semester to get used to. I
would also recommend this to all new local and international students. All my professors are very nice
and helpful even in a time like this when most of the classes are conducted online due to the COVID 19
pandemic. Professors want to help you get good grades and, as long as you do your “homework” and
deliver on time, the academics are relatively easy.

Living in residence halls, apartments and self-rooms was a whole new experience for me. I live in
apartment-style halls near campus. This means I have a double room, a bathroom, a small kitchen and a
small living room in the apartment. I have got a few new friends both local and international students
from my faculty of social science and other faculties. At first there was a couple of problems as two of
my friends were very messy and noisy at night once they visited and also alcoholic. However, after we
established some ground rules as friends, it became better. From this I have learned that the most
important when you live with others is to tell immediately if something bothers you.

Especially in the first semester it is important to meet many people to find friends. Clubs, Study groups,
sororities and organizations are perfect for this. I am joining many groups and Clubs on my campus,
where I could find some new friends.

In brief, putting aside the effects of COVID19 which I won’t go into detail, my first experience at NDEJJE
University is not a bad one and am to encourage many more of my high school friends and friends
outside the NDEJJE family to continue Joining.
