This unit was a helpful introduction and reinforcement into what
comes to be adjectives, subjects, verbs in time and the usage of aux verbs to explain imaginary situations of the past, but I know this sounds like a lot to begin with so let’s start from the beginning. The usage of subjects I believe is the simplest part of these lessons since it allows and gives the student the proper understanding of the usage of an expression that allows to explain about a person, animal, object or ambiance; a good example of these is a sentence like the guard on the fence where without the word guard the position or level to the context of the sentence would be unknown therefore allowing for a better understanding. A subject is the individual or group of characters that exist on the context of a conversation, sentence, phrase, etc. The usage of these allow to tell the listener or reader what, who or whom is the speaker talking about. Usually without a subject any expression cannot make sense since without it there wouldn’t be a referent to what it is being talked about, imagine saying something like, are beautiful, ok what is beautiful, who is beautiful the phrase makes no sense since there is no one or nothing being explained, there is no subject therefore there is no main context or logic to the conversation or to the expression being said. So basically no subject no sense, also a subject is the direct description of the use of the to be verb, also known as the 1st and main rule and thing to use on the English language (you know it as he/she, they/you/we, I) which is the used to describe something and without we basically sound like apes, this good, you bad that’s how you would sound without the To be vb, so In conclusion, learn the subject of an expression if you don’t want to sound ridiculous or dumb. That being said there’s another thing taught at this unit that is very important when explaining or expressing something, and that is the adjectives, now you must be saying what is an adjective, well an adjective is the one thing that literally explains things, now being serious an adjective is an explaining word used to give description or explanation of the subject, remember the subject? Well this is the subject’s wing man, the one word that describes the subject, to know what I am talking about here’s an example: in the expression my dear old friend the words old and dear are adjectives since the describe in a more detailed way what the friend is, so it’s a descriptive expression to the subject. Now let’s get serious here, an adjective is like butter for bread or salt to a steak, it helps explain what are you eating in a more flavorful way since you don’t remember a plain piece of bread or an unseasoned steak, well you don’t remember a simple HE OR IT in a conversation you remember a certain someone or something and how it was described to you, well those descriptions were adjectives used to have a better idea of who or what the subject is and give a more detailed context to the conversation or expression. Here’s a great and large example for adjectives: my old friend Michael, looks like a red muffin after that expensive trip to Miami, he ate like crazy and took a lot of sun at the beach he is very fat and burnt, but hey he’s the boss best man, and to be honest he’s a very loyal and hardworking man, also he’s a very loving father and husband, he deserves a little break. The given example has a lot of description and about everything mentioned and all that description was done thanks to adjectives, they gave a deeper meaning and context to the conversation and allowed the reader to have a clearer idea of what every subject was and meant on it. Therefore, the adjective is a very important part to bring context and understanding of an expression, sentence, story or basically anything on the English language. The next very important thing to have in consideration about this unit is the way verbs and actions are interpreted based on the time the context exists, either you’re talking about the past, the present or the future and the way you’re talking about that in time, at the present well nothing changes much, you have the present simple you are my friend, The present continuous you are being a good friend and the present perfect you have been my friend for so long now how can all of these be referred to the same place in time, simple all of them talk about the same thing, a present action or story something that is occurring right now or that is happening or is still happening as for now. Then you have the past, one of the most complicated times to express in English since in this case, the verbs and the use of some grammar rules change, for example in the simple past you have something like you were my friend but the conjugation depends on the type of verb some verbs change DRASTICALLY like you ate that (ate is the past of eat) and others just need to add an ed At the end of the verb like i played that, but there’s also perfect past like I had gone there yesterday but I was busy, and past continuous I was studying but you stopped me these are some examples of sentences an expressions that are occurred in the past but no longer. And the easiest one the future time, in this time of the English language there’s only two options the going to and the will/won’t, these 2 options are similar but the have one difference, the going to refers to an action or thing that is definitely to happen in the future and its confirmed to occur like I’m going to turn 20 in 3 days, and will/won’t talks about something that might happen like I will go tomorrow relax or I won’t be able to come sorry it’s something stated to happen but is unsure if it’s the definite last decision or if it might change at the last second, after all the future is unknown one is never sure of what’s going to happen. The times and how to express yourself on them is a vital thing on English since you can talk about what you did, are doing and will do. One very simple but helpful lesson here in this unit is the imaginary situations and how to talk about them, these are referrers to the might, could, should, may and would. What the hell is that? Simple are the helping words to talk about something you want to happen or wish/wished happens. To have a better grasp about this let’s give a simple explanation and then some examples so that you get what I mean. An imaginary situation is a scenario you wish can occur, or can also be something that already happened but you wanted it to go another way. Now how exactly you put these into words? Well like this, I wish I could be there that explains that you’d like to be able to be there, also you have the would expression which talks about something you like can happen in any time like I would like to stay home tomorrow and it’s very used on its apostrophe version ‘d like this I’d like to kiss you. You have might which is something used when you are talking about something that is very possible of happening like I might go there but its no absolute of definite. Also there is should which talks about a scenario that is better to happen since it might be positive on the context of the story and its negative part is shouldn’t an example of this is I should go do my homework, I don’t know why a bought that cheese I shouldn’t have trusted that plate; may is very rare and it’s a formal version of can as in I may go with you to the party tonight an expression that talks about something that can and/or will happen. The perfect example of these expressions on an imaginary scenario is the following paragraph: I wish that Michael was nicer to me, I mean he is my brother he should be more caring and nice, I might tell my teacher to give me some advices that could help me get to him, I would do anything only if he stops just ignoring me, I may talk to him about sports but I’m just not that much into it. Any way he probably might get over it soon its probably just a phase. WELL, after that little summary of the unit I’m parched, I’m going to get some water or coffee and wish you a wonderful day.
