No Query. Understanding Question paper is part of Exam.

Question # 01 (1+2+1= 4 )
a) Which layer(s) of OSI model provides the service of manipulation, presentation and
communication with the user?
b) In case of networked computers that do not share memory, peripheral devices, or a clock, how
the operating system manages communications between these computers?
c) What is the role of protocols in computer network, state examples in each?

Question # 02 (2 x 2 = 4)
a) Suppose you are going to transmit a packet over OSI Network Model. Explain the working of
Router, Gateway and Switch. Which device will be used if you face an issue of weak signals
during transmission? Also, Mention on which level of OSI model these devices will work
efficiently.
b) Attenuation, Distortion and Noise are the causes of Transmission impairment. What would be
the solution or how these causes can be improved.

Question # 03 (5)
a. Given Figure shows a small-scale network comprising one switch and one router. A personal
computer is connected to the switch and a server is connected to the router. For this network,
consider data being sent from the personal computer to the server and draw a protocol layer
diagram that clearly shows which layers of the OSI Reference Model would be used within the
personal computer, switch, router and server.
Question # 04 (2 x 5 = 10)

a. A router receives an IPv4 packet with source IP address 130.45.3.3 and destination IP address 201.23.4.6.
The router cannot find the destination IP address in its routing table. Which ICMPv4 message should be
sent?
b. In a block of addresses, we know the IP address of one host is 25.34.12.56/18. What are the first
address (network address) and the last address (limited broadcast address) in this block?

Question # 05: (7 Marks)

Routing Information Protocol (RIP) is a dynamic routing protocol which uses hop count as a routing
metric to find the best path between the source and the destination network. It is a distance vector
routing protocol which has AD value 120 and works on the application layer of OSI model. RIP uses
port number 520.
Hop Count :
Hop count is the number of routers occurring in between the source and destination network. The path
with the lowest hop count is considered as the best route to reach a network and therefore placed in the
routing table. RIP prevents routing loops by limiting the number of hopes allowed in a path from
source and destination. The maximum hop count allowed for RIP is 15 and hop count of 16 is
considered as network unreachable

Configure the following lab in Packet Tracer using RIP Protocol

i. Show Configuration of RIP for each router
ii. Show Routing table for each Router after configuration
