UNIT 5- BACK IN TIME

GRAMMAR

 PAST SIMPLE OF REGULAR VERBS:

AFFIRMATIVE: Se añade –ED al verbo

Ej: I work- I worked

 SPELLING

1. Live- lived Se añade solamente –d al verbo cuando acaba en –e


2. Cuando el verbo acaba en –Y pueden darse dos casos:
Si antes de la –y hay una vocal como en PLAY, solamente se añade –ed:
PLAYED
Si antes de la –y hay una consonante como en STUDY, se cambia la Y por
I + ED : STUDIED
3. Cuando hay un verbo monosílabo en el que hay una vocal entre
consonantes, como en PLAN, se añade otra consonante +ED: PLANNED
Excepción : verbos que acaban en w, x : FIX- FIXED ( nunca añaden una
consonante cuando se escriben en pasado)
4. Cuando hay un verbo bisílabo en el que la última vocal entre
consonantes es tónica ( donde recae el golpe de voz) como PREFER, se
añade una consonante+ ED : PREFERRED
Si la vocal entre consonantes es átona, no se añade otra consonante al
añadir ED: LISTEN- LISTENED
Excepción: verbos que acaban l : TRAVEL-TRAVELLED ( siempre añaden
una consonante cuando se escriben en pasado)

 NEGATIVE:
SUBJECT+ DIDN´T + INFINITIVE .
EX: I didn´t listen…… ETC

 INTERROGATIVE :
DID+ SUBJECT+ INFINITIVE
EX: Did I listen? ….. ETC
 TIME EXPRESSIONS

Expresiones como:

Yesterday, yesterday morning, afternoon, evening

Last night, month, year,

In the past

Ago ( Two days ago, three years ago…)

Etc…

 PAST SIMPLE OF HAVE:


AFFIRMATIVE: I had/ he had/ they had….
NEGATIVE : SUBJECT+ DIDN´T + INFINITIVE : I/ he/ They… didn´t have
INTERROGATIVE: DID+ SUBJECT+INFINITIVE: Did I /he/ They… have?

 PAST SIMPLE OF COULD


AFFIRMATIVE: SUBJECT+COULD +INFINITIVE: I /he/ they… could listen
NEGATIVE: SUBJECT+ COULDN´T+INFINITIVE: I/he/ they… couldn´t listen
INTERROGATIVE : COULD+SUBJECT+INFINITIVE: Could I/ he/they… listen
