6
105. free time.

106. MSC: FADE IN MUSIC FOR 3 SECONDS

107. THEN FADE OUT

108. We are now on WHAT IS IT. First, let us

109. define Passive and Active Voice. What do

110. you mean by active and passive voice?

111. When do you use active and passive voice

112. in a sentence?

113. SFX: CUE IN CLAPPING SOUND

114. FOR 2 SECONDS THEN CUE OUT

115. Brilliant! Active voice means that the

116. sentence has a subject that acts upon its

117. verb. Passive Voice means that the subject

WHAT IS IT
118. is a recipient of a verb’s action. However, let

119. us first tackle Lesson 1 Active voice.

120. When the subject of a sentence performs

121. the verb’s action, we say that the sentence

122. is in the active voice.

123. CUE IN MUSIC FOR 1 SEC.

124. THEN CUE OUT

125. Examples: 1. Monkeys adore bananas

126. 2. The cashier counted the money.

7
127. 3. The dog chased the squirrel

128. In the examples given: the subject Monkeys

129. performs the action adore and the action of

130. the verb is completed by the object

131. bananas; the subject The cashier performs

132. the action counted and the action ofthe verb

133. is completed by the object the money; and

134. in the last example, The subject dog

135. performs the action chased and the action is

136. completed by the object the squirrel.

137. To figure out the direct object, you may use

138. the question format: “The subject did what?”

139. Example: The monkeys adored (what?)

140. Bananas (direct object)

141. (MUSIC: CUE IN FOR 3 SECONDS THEN

142. CUE OUT)

143. In transforming an active voice to passive

144. voice, follow these steps:

145. 1.The object in the active voice becomes

146. the subject in the passive voice;

147. 2.The verb in the active voice is changed

148. into passive—The passive form of the verb

8
149. is made with the appropriate tense of the “to

150. be verb” and the past participle; and

151. 3. The subject in the active voice becomes

152. part of the prepositional phrase that begins

153. with “by” and the object at the end of the

154. sentence.

155. (MUSIC: CUE IN FOR 3 SECONDS THEN

156. CUE OUT)

157. At this point, we are now on What’s More.

158. Activity 1 Guided Practice

159. Directions: Are the sentences below in the

160. active voice? Put a check in your notebook

161. if it’s in the active voice. Write your answers

162. in your notebook. Let’s answer item 1

163. 1. Emily is using hand sanitizer. What do

164. you is the answer?

165. SFX: CUE IN CLAPPING SOUND

166. FOR 2 SECONDS THEN CUE OUT

167. Excellent! The answer is Active because

168. Emily as the subject is the doer of the

169. Action of the verb in the sentence.

170. You may answer the rest of the items later

9
171. after your lessons on air or during your free

172. time. Let’s move on with our modular

173. instruction class.

174. (MUSIC: CUE IN FOR 3 SECONDS

175. THEN CUE OUT

176. Activity 2. Independent Practice

181. Example: 1.) Jane stirs the stew.

182. Passive Voice: The stew is stirred by Jane.

183. (MUSIC: CUE IN FOR 3 SECONDS

184. THEN CUE OUT

185. At this juncture, let tackle Lesson2 -

186. Passive Voice. Go to page 7 - What’s New

195. c.The letter will be signed by the president

196. what is the answer, class?

197. SFX: CUE IN CLAPPING SOUND

199. Awesome! The answer is letter A.

200. You may answer the rest of the items later

201. after your lessons on air or during your free

202. time. Let’s move on with our modular

203. instruction class.

204. (MUSIC: CUE IN FOR 3 SECONDS

205. THEN CUE OUT

206. We are now on What is it?

207. THE PASSIVE VOICE

208. A sentence is in the passive voice, when the

209. subject is acted on by the verb. The passive

210. voice is always constructed with a

211. conjugated form of to be plus the verb’s past

WHAT IS IT
212. participle. Doing this usually generates a

213. preposition as well. That sounds much more

214. complicated than it is – passive voice is

11
215. actually quite easy to detect. For these

216. examples of passive voice, we will transform

217. the three active sentences above to

218. illustrate the difference.

219. 1. Examples: (subject) (verb) (object)

220. Active Voice: Monkeys adore bananas

221. Passive Voice: Bananas are adored by

222. monkeys. In this example, the monkeys as

223. the subject active doer of the action which is

224. adore and later change into the receiver for

225. the passive voice. For more examples,

226. please refer to the table.

227. (MUSIC: CUE IN FOR 3 SECONDS

228. THEN CUE OUT)
