A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 2

1. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, pupils are expected to achieve at least 75% proficiency level in the
following behavior:

Cognitive: identify straight and curve lines; and flat and curve surface on a 3 –
dimensional object .

Psychomotor: Differentiate objects with straight and curved lines and objects with flat and curve
surfaces.

Affective: Enhance perception on 3 –dimensional objects.

II SUBJECT MATTER
Skill: identify lines and surfaces on 3 –dimensional objects.

Reference: Mathematics learners materials pp.234 –237 Mathematics 2 Teachers guide.

Materials: Ball, notebook, glass

Value: Appreciation of objects.

Teaching method: Practical work approach.

III PROCEDURE
TEACHERS ACTIVITY PUPILS ACTIVITY
A. Preparatory activities

Routine:
–Prayer
–Checking of attendance
–Class who is absent today?
1.Review
Yesterday, you have discussed about
tessellation .can you tell me what you have
learned about tessellation?
Tessellation is telling (covering) a surface and
forming patterns using shapes.
What activity about tessellation did you do?
We covered a surface of a paper using different
shapes.
What shapes did you use in tessellating surfaces?
We use square, rectangle, and triangles in
tessellating surfaces.
But first, what shapes are these?

Triangle
Square

I have a big triangle, who can go to the board and

cover this big triangles surface with these shapes?

2.MOTIVATION
Class, look around our class room, what different
objects do you see? Can you give one and tell me
its shape?

eraser –rectangle
electric fan –circle
charts –rectangle
flash cards –square
B. Development Activities
1.PRESENTATION/DISCUSSION
Class, I am going to show you few objects and tell
me what shape does it has and describe its line
and surfaces.

What shape that this object have? what can you Cone
say about its edge? How about its surface? Its edge are straight it’s has a flat surface
Very good! now class, this object is called cone.
Again, what do we call this?

Cone

How about this? What shape does it has? It’s shape is rectangle
Describe it’s line and surface? It has straight lines and flat surfaces

We call this object a RECTANGULAR PRISM

What kind of object is it?
Rectangular prism
This object is called a cylinder. Can you describe
it’s lines and surface?

What do we call this object?

It has curve lines and flat surface

Cylinder

2. Group Activity
Now, I have here a box with different objects ,I will
call few of you and get one here, then, you will
name the object you set and describe it’s lines
and surface, are you ready?

Yes! Ma’am this is a santa hat it has a straight line

and a flat surface.
This is a milk box If it has a straight line and a flat
surface

3.ANALYSIS This is a glass it has curve lines and a curve

This time, we will have a group activity, I will group surface.
you into three groups based from your sets.
Before the activity, may I ask, what are the
standards to be followed in doing a group activity?
–standards

1.share your ideas/cooperate with the group

2.read and follow the direction carefully
3.work quietly
4.finish your work on time

–distribution of activity sheets, I will give you few

object and a peace of bond paper, you will follow
the directions found in the activity sheet, I will give
you object given to you
Group 1: ball, note book, eraser
Group 2: glass, ball, box
Group 3: note book, glass, ball
C. Post –activity
1.GENERALIZATION
What characteristics of an object have we
discussed today?
Lines and surface objects
Objects can have what kinds of line?
Straight and curve lines
How about surfaces, what kind of surface can an
object have?
It can flat or curve surface
What are the examples of objects with straight line
and a flat surface?
Books, notebook, table, chairs, black board.
What are the examples of object with curve lines
and curve surface?
Balls, coke can, heart shaped, box, marble,
aquarium.
2.Application
Write CURVE or FLAT to describe of the following
objects:
1. plate
2. television
3. pail

Draw (straight) or (curve) line to

describe the lines of the following objects.
1. wheel
2. bed
3. kettle
4. pan

IV. EVALUATION
Box the object with straight lines and a flat surface. Encircle the object with curve line and curve
surface.

V. ASSIGNMENT
Draw two objects with straight line and flat surface and three objects with curve line and curve surface.
