Ma’alim-us-Siraat
Book 4
Name: Class:
Assalaamu Alaikum and welcome to the Quran program at Al Siraat College. We are
delighted to offer daily Quran classes in the Junior School (Foundation to Year 6), and 3 to 4
classes every week in Senior School (Years 7 to 10).
This booklet is designed for both reading practice and as record of achievement. You will find
a teacher comment and parent signature section at the end of each page. You will only need
to sign once the teacher has made an entry. Your child’s teacher will communicate the expected
weekly lessons via email. Please note that in addition to the page numbers, each line has
alphabetical references as well.
Students at the beginner reading levels will be placed on one of the 5 levelled books of
Ma’alim-Us-Siraat. These are described as follows:
Book 1:
1. Identifying the Arabic Alphabet
2. Reading the alphabet with Fat-ha, Kasrah and Dhammah
Book 2:
1. Rules of joining letters with Sukoon and Shaddah
2. Creating additional sounds of the letters with Tanween
Book 3:
1. Understanding stretching of letters with rules of Madd
2. The correct method for reading of Hamzatul Wasl in a sentence
Book 4:
1. Applying Tajweed rules of Noon Sakinah, Tanween, and Meem Sakinah
Book 5:
1. Applying Tafkheem (heavy) and Tarqeeq (light) sounds for Laam and Raa
2. Applying stopping rules in the Quran
Once students have progressed through these levels, they proceed to the Quran reading level
(Naathirah). This follows a guided reading process beginning with Juz 30 and 29 before
returning back to the start of the Quran.
The focus of our program is on the quality of reading which considers accuracy and fluency.
Please be patient with your child as they acquire these skills – improvement in reading takes
time. Fluent readers are more likely to make Quran reading part of their daily routine.
Please allocate at least 15 to 20 minutes for your child to practice their reading from home.
For students on the Naathirah levels, they are encouraged to listen to Sheikh Al-Hussary’s
recitation, as his slow and clear application of the tajweed rules benefits students.

Noon Sakinah and Tanween
ن
ــ ٍـ ًــ
ٌ
A Noon Sakinah is a Noon with a Sukoon:
Tanween is considered the same as Noon Sakinah because it sounds just like a
Noon Saakinah. Because of this similarity, the two take the same rules.
There are 4 rules:
1. Idh'haar
2. Idghaam
3. Iqlaab
4. Ikhfaa
َ ۡ
Note: Noon Sakinah is spelt the same way as Sukoon (Book 2)
1. Idh'haar إِظهار
Clarity
Idh'haar is to pronounce the letter from its makhraj, clearly and distictly, without
any changes.
ۡ or ـــ ًــ
When
ن ٍ ٌ is followed by any letter of the throat: ء ه ع ح غ خ
ۡ or ـــ ًــ
the
ن ٍ ٌ is pronounced clearly. There is no ghunnah.
Example: ۡ
َأن َع ۡمتَ
1. Spell the first sound: Hamzah Fathah, Noon Sukoon, An.
2. Spell the second sound: 'Ain Fathah, Meem Sukoon, 'Am.
3. Read the two sounds together: An'am.
4. Spell the third sound: Ta Fathah, Ta.
5. Read the sounds together: An'amta
