Accomplishment Report on Person with Disability

SY 2019-20210

I. INTRODUCTION

Disability is one of the most important issues in the contemporary society because
stigmatization of people with disabilities contributed to the formation of biases and
prejudices which put them into the disadvantageous position compared to people, who
did not have problems of disability. Disability is the complex notion that involves
limited opportunities and special needs of people but it does not mean the inferiority
of individuals compared to those, who do not have disability.

Education for all is a school policy that gives schools a clear definition of inclusive
education and what the legal obligations are for supporting students with disabilities.
This means that the policy applies to all students with a disability, not just those who
are eligible for support under the Education for All (EFA) 2015 Plan Preparation of
the Department of Education.

Danlag National High School has identified different learners with disability. These
include learners with physical disability, vision and hearing impairment, and with
mental health condition. One of the learners with special needs is Michael M. Galario,
a grade 11 student with physical disability. Despite of his condition, Michael continue
going to school every day just to attend class and participate in every class discussion.
He is an inspiration to everyone and a living proof that regardless of his disability, he
shows eagerness to continue his studies to become successful in life.

Another learner with special need is the elder brother of Michael. He is Ricky M.
Galario, a grade 12 student who has a mental health problem. He shown lack of
interest in school and was not even participating in class discussion. There was a time
he’s being so aggressive and it makes a big concern specially to his classmates and
teachers. With that result, it has been referred to the Barangay Council for further
assessment and monitoring for the safety of everyone. For other learners with slight
vision and hearing impairment, they are sited in front for them to properly hear the
teacher’s discussion and see the presentation being presented.
Having a disability, it can affect not only the student and the parents, but the educators
as well. Policies, procedures, and programs are put in place to help these students
succeed in the world of education.
