Let the students tell if they really understand the past lesson and solicit what they have learned. B. Motivation Introduce the “Guess the Picture” game. Let the students guess what picture is shown to them. Ask the students what are these pictures depict. C. Activities The students are given a piece of paper which contains a pre-test of the new lesson. D. Abstraction Proceed to the lesson proper by defining the important terms first. “Science and NDEP Integration” Present to the class the risk and protective factors of substance use and abuse. After the presentation pose the following questions: 1. What is the difference between risks and protective factors on substance use and abuse? 2. E. Application Divide the students into groups.
Provide each group with sample scenarios depicts the use and non-use of psychoactive substances. F. Assessment “ESP Integration” With the given scenarios, each group must answer the guide questions. Scenario 1 Guide Questions: 1. What are the risk and protective factors mentioned above? 2. What could have been the root cause of Richard Olaguer’s psychoactive substance use and abuse? 3. If Richard’s situations were discovered earlier and interventions were done. What do you think Richard’s life now could be? 4. As a student, how will you keep yourself away from such event to happen to your life?
Scenario 2 Guide Questions:
1. What are the risk and protective factors mentioned above? 2. What could have been the root cause of Amalia Conde’s psychoactive substance use and abuse? 3. If you were Amalia and you came to a new place having no money will you do the same thing she did? If not, what will you do then? 4. As a student, how will you keep yourself away from such event to happen to your life?
A post-test about risk and protective factors will then be given to
each student. G. Assignment “ICT and English Integration” Using the given news article, each student must be able to make a blog which contains information regarding psychoactive substance. The blog must answer the following questions: 1. What was the article all about? 2. Where is the event situated? 3. How does the geographical location play a role with the issue? 4. How did the authorities handle it? 5. What could have happened if there were no interventions done?
