SELF-EVALUATION TASK TP 4: THE LEARNERS

1. Consider how successfully this particular lesson worked for this particular group of learners. Name 3
things that were most successful.

a) My timing

b) My engagement with students

c) The way I use my material

2. Name 3 things that you would do differently if you we able to teach this lesson again.

a) Better explanation in phonemics

b) Try to guide the students to use more the target language in freer practice

c) Have more time with emerging language

3. What’s your understanding of the principle behind these statements? And do you agree?
“Teach the learners and not the plan.” “People are more important than plans.”
The principle for me is that even If you prepare an awesome class, problems may come, so it is important to
notice your students while you’re giving he class so you can note some error or difficulties that they may
have and also that will help the teacher to change the direction of the class if necessary. I agree

4. What advice can you give the new teachers taking on this group of learners in terms of:

a. Planning
Try to be super specific with the procedure sheet because that will give them a lot of
guidance about timing and micro staging.

b. Teaching
Try not to be nervous because they’re an excellent group of students so they’re always eager
to work.

5. What are this group’s primary / ongoing learning priorities or needs at this point? (And provide
evidence for this if you can, e.g. examples/errors, etc.)

a) They need to difference the use of ing in verbs and adjectives.

b) They need to remember to use the auxiliar verbs when they are talking in present progressive
e.g. I walking

c) They need to improve their pronunciation of some consonants or vowwels like the th consonant.
6. What do you anticipate you will need to focus on with the new level in terms of:

a) Their needs at the new level

I think they will need a little bit of grammar but I consider they will need more lexis.

b) Your own teaching skills at the new level

I’ll need to improve the way I explain grammar and lexis. Because at this point it get tricky.
