Humidity: is the amount of water vapor in the air, there are two types of
humidity, absolute and relative humidity.

Absolute humidity: is the amount of water vapor divided by the amount

of dry air in a certain volume of air at a particular temperature.

Relative humidity (RH): is the ratio of the current absolute humidity to

the highest possible absolute humidity which will depend up on the
current air temperature. A relative humidity of 100% means that the air
cannot hold any more water vapor it is totally saturated, when this
occurs it can rain in fact. Most comfortable relative humidity of around is
45%.

Dew point (K): is the temperature to which air must be cooled to

become saturated with water vapor will condense to form liquid water
(dew). When air cools to its dew point through contact with a surface
that is colder than the air water will condense on the surface. When the
temperature is below the freezing point of water the dew point is called
frost point as frost formed rather than dew. The measurement of dew
point is related to humidity, a higher dew point means there will be
more moisture in the air.
When the temperature is below dew point the vapor is called super
saturated.

-A high relative humidity implies that the dew point is closer to the
current air temperature.

-Relative humidity 100% indicates the dew point is equal to the current
temperature and that the air is maximally saturated with water.
Method of measurement
Measurement of relative humidity is done by hygrometer (an instrument
for measuring the humidity of the air or a gas).

-Relative humidity (RH) %

-Dew point (K) is in °C

1. Absolute Humidity:

𝑊𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑟 𝑣𝑎𝑝𝑜𝑟
Abs. H= ∗ %100
𝑑𝑟𝑦 𝑎𝑖𝑟

2. Relative Humidity (RH):

𝑐𝑜𝑟𝑟𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑎𝑏𝑠.𝐻
𝑅𝐻 = ∗ %100
ℎ𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑒𝑠𝑡 𝐴𝑏𝑠. 𝐻

Readings:

1.46.5%

2.46.5%

3. 84.2%

4.65.8%

5.50.3%
Conclusions:
After doing the experiment in the lab and taking the result, Warm air can
possess more water vapor (moisture) than cold air, so with the same
amount of absolute/specific humidity, air will have a HIGHER relative
humidity if the air is cooler, and a LOWER relative humidity if the air is
warmer.
