Activity: Replace defining strings and surfaces


In this activity, you will replace the defining strings and surfaces in a part that was
modeled for editing flexibility.

Replace a sketch defining string


1. Open syn1_edit_1.

2. Use the Part Navigator to examine how the part is built.

Since the designer expected significant changes to the part, sketches, extruded
bodies, and trim features are used so that the part surfaces can be replaced.

3. In the Part Navigator, right-click Sketch (9) PAD_PROFILE and choose Show.

4. Change to a static wireframe rendering style.

5. Double-click Extrude (23) "EXTRUDE_PAD".


6. In the Extrude dialog box, in the Section group, ensure that Select Curve (4) is
active.
7. In the graphics window, use Shift + select to deselect line 1 and then select
arc 2.

8. Click OK.

The shape of the pad updates and preserves the shape of the blends and taper.

Replace the first trim sheet


1. Hide the PAD_PROFILE sketch and Show Revolved (12).

2. Double-click Trim Body (21) "TRIM_BASE".

You want to replace the trim datum plane with the lower sheet body.

3. In the Trim Body dialog box, with the Tool Select Face or Plane (1) active, use
Shift + select to deselect the datum plane and then select the bottom sheet
body.

The sheet normal should point upward.

4. Click OK and Hide Revolved(12).

The base now has a curve shape based on the sheet used for trimming.

Replace the second trim sheet


1. In the Part Navigator, right-click Offset (13) and choose Show.
2. Edit Trim Body (25) "TRIM_PAD"and replace the current trim feature with
the Offset (13) feature.

Both the base and the top surfaces now have curvature.

3. Close all parts.
