Bamboo Pavilion Designed by ZUO STUDIO

The main idea of the Bamboo Pavilion was

to combine nature with architecture and enforces
the idea of using sustainable building materials.
The architects were able to create the pavilion
with a naturally organic shape through the
combination of locally sourced steel, Makino
bamboo and Moso bamboo. 320 bamboo plants
were used to build the Bamboo Pavilion. The
general form of the pavilion is inspired by the
Central Mountain Range in Taiwan. The structure
creates a perception of walking through a bamboo
forest.
.
The facade was made by weaving bamboo
The open air design slats in longitudinal and omni-directional directions
encourages cross to create an organic semi permeable design
ventilation going
through lengthwise in akeen to a bamboo canopy. This creates the
the pavilion. space underneath to be uniquely lit and yet be
shaded by the sun at the same time.
Light is being
blocked by
the bamboo "We believe in the versatility and
facade capabilities that bamboo can offer to create a
space that changes people's perception of what a
bamboo construction can be and expand their
vision," said the studio.

For my plant kiosk design I plan on using

the flexibility of bamboo to create an organic
shaped structural facade to a similar effect of this
pavilion. This form would allow the plants to
harness enough sunlight in and outside of storage
as well as “breath” in carbon dioxide due to the
open air design.

Due to the
random nature
of the weave of
the facade the
shadows
created are
unique.

During different
times of the day
and in different
seasons the
shadows
created by the
pavilion
changes due to
the position of
the pavilion in
relation to the
sun.

The open air

nature of the
pavilion allows
natural
ventilation from
all directions.

The Quadrant House by: Robert Konieczny

The quadrant house designed by robert

konieczny is a residential building situated in
Poland. I chose this building as my precedence
due to a very unique attribute; a moving outdoor
living space that pivots 90 degrees and dock in 2
parts of the house.

The name “Quadrant House” was used

because the basis of the movable space is an
equipment used by astronomers called the
Quadrant. This tool is used to measure the altitude
of astronomical objects.

The mechanism that moves the living space

has 2 main parts; The heavy duty hinge that
connects the movable space to the main building
and 2 curved rails where the wheels underneath
the movable space follows. The mechanism was
constructed by Comstal.
.
The speed of the terrace moves and the
time it moves are controlled by the location of the
sun due to a built in system and is completely
automated. The mechanism is programmed to
constantly move throughout the day.
PLAN

For my kiosk I want to incorporate an swivel

design where when the kiosk is open a section of
my kiosk will swivel out to create more space for
the customers to view the plants and create more
space for interactive display shelves. When the
kiosk closes it will swivel back in and return to its
original form.
PLAN
My plan is to create a semi dome
platform that will swivel out 90
degrees to take up 75 percent of
the allotted space while the kiosk
is open. This creates more
movement space for the
customers that want to enter the
kiosk to look at the display
shelves. When the kiosk closes it
swivels back in to the space of 1
DETAIL DRAWING carpark
FRONT ELEVATION
When the space has fully
swiveled 90 degrees the platform
will drop 10 centimeters to lock
the swivel in place so that the
platform will not be able to move
while there are customers on top
and create a more sturdy area to
step on top of without any fear of
movement.
