• Historiography refers to the theory and history of historical writings. It is the writing of
history.

2. Is author’s background important in the analysis of perspective or point of view?


• Yes, because knowing the author’s perspectives or point of view is one way to analyze
their historical writings.

3. What is ‘pantayong pananaw’?


• Pantayong pananaw supports the nationalist view. It proposes that it is ‘us’ that are talking
or conversing with each other and it refers foreigners as ‘they’.

4. Why it is important to understand what was happened in the past through primary
documents?
• It is important to understand what was happened in the past through primary documents
because it is primary documents hold the original source material and that the document
that cited the original is the oldest source that an information can be retrieved.

Now that you are through analyzing the document by Gregoria de Jesus, let’s have another
document to examine. However, for this document you don’t have to do the analysis via the
importance of the document and examination of the author’s point of view. This time, you
will make an ‘argumentative essay’ of the document regarding the proclamation of our
independence from Spanish colonization. The original version of this document was written
by Ambrosio Reanzares Bautista in Spanish. ( Acta de la proclamacion de independiente de
la pueblo Filipino) so we will use the English translated version of Sulpicio Guevarra. You will
find the document at the end of the lesson(p.56). Write your answers to supporting
questions and argumentative essay on a separate sheet.
• As what it stated on the document, Philippines had been there, been in an independency
country. It was drastically hands by Spaniards. The suffer that every Filipinos experience back
then was really tough, to mention about their hardship they’ve gone before such as slavery,
having a misery life, exploitation and been harsh by many foreign people. Proven that many
people risked their lives in order for us to be protected, commit freedom and empower our
country. Realizing the situation of our ancestors back then, makes me feel so lucky this
situation we had right now. The freedom that they’ve never experience before differ to what
we had now. Anyways, in this document, Don Emilio Aguinaldo and his compatriots had
been an alliance of United States. It was proclaim under the protection of the Powerful and
Humanitarian Nation and that is the United States of America. Furthermore, talking about
flag, it commemorates the flag of to the United States of North America which is blue, red,
and white. It is to manifest our gratitude towards this Great Nation for continuing leading us.
I had been grateful of knowing about some of our midpoint of our history and reminiscing
the heroine act of our great heroes years ago. In addition, It gives me an ideas more about
our flag like what each color signifies about. In white triangle of our flag, it signifies about
the distinctive emblem of the famous society of the “Katipunan” which by means of its blood
compact inspired the masses to rise in revolution. In what I know during my grade school.
The flag is a detailed thing that really embrace and race our identity as Filipino.
This argument acknowledge the braveness of every Filipino. The declaration of Philippine
Independence had been prepared and written by Ambrosio Biarenza Bautista in Spanish and
witnessed by an American army which indicate the fact that it has really proven and also a
document evidence to the events of history.
