Dear Sir/madam,

With enthusiasm, I apply for the Community Programs Associate. My experience with
community development and research, coupled with my education, makes me an ideal candidate
for this position. In addition to volunteering as the community service director in Rotaract
Mbarara, I have for the last year been working as community development assistant in a non-
government organization known as Progressive health partnership under their community
centered development project in rural southwestern Uganda.
My work in the community reflects my interests which are developing and implementing
developmental programs in rural communities. In Uganda, majority of the youth are
unemployed and yet educated, however lack financial support and skills to create their novelties
therefore, it is imperative that the issue is addressed.
For over 7 years I have immersed myself in community development research and
addressing this issue. From being a peer educator through promoting campaigns on entrepreneur
skills where a team of students and I from the university created reusable sanitary pads for the
rural community.
Showing initiative is a key quality a good leader possesses, as supervisor for the Young
Women's Leadership Program at Mbarara University, I was involved in recruiting and mentoring
university students to help on career guidance and trust building exercises among secondary
students. This involved coordinated field visits to communities and taught secondary school
students skills in leadership. The particular project fostered the university's relationship with
secondary schools especially among the young girls aspiring to take on leadership roles in the
futures.
My interest in community development was not limited to field work exclusively. I also
looked to further my education by attaining my Masters in Arts in Local Governance and
Planning. I also spent a spring semester abroad at the University of Virginia where I finalized
my master’s thesis on women in development and also worked as an instructor.
As a SIDA scholar at Lund University in Sweden, a colleague and I designed a one-year
project looked at improving parental skills and parent-child communication on sex. The project
was implemented in rural south western Uganda and continues on through support groups.

 Innovation village is a place where all ideas are welcome and formulated encouraging
development wholly this aligns with the community work that tends to be marginalized. As a
community development worker I hope to be part of developing and influencing the
implementation of data-driven programs for the TIV communities.
