Realism, Neoclassicism and from Romanticism
Question:
Differentiate Realism from Neoclassicism and from Romanticism
Answer:
Realism is a kind of painting that is based on real moments in life of real
scenery/pictures. It is representing the subject of an art truthfully unlike
any other arts that are usually based in fictions or unrealistic features.
Realism is the accurate pictures of lifeforms, perspective, and the details
of light and colors.

While Neoclassicism as I can see is based more on the architectural arts

and antique paintings mostly seen in Rome. The subjects are usually
focused on people or crowds that are in war or in a quarrel. Though most
of the paintings are obviously based in real moments, not all
Neoclassicism arts are realistic.

Lastly is Romanticism art that is mostly drawn from the emotion of the
painter from a certain point of view in an event. This results to an
unrealistic colors of some paintings. Some paintings are too dark and too
light based on how the artist viewed the subject. You can feel both
heavy and light emotion in a Romanticism painting.

Activity 14
Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo Bounarotti
Question:
How would you assess the lives of these two great men?
Answer:
I assess the life of Leonardo da Vinci as an amazing but unfortunate one.
Leonardo da Vinci, as I learned, is such a brilliant man that I guess as
good as Einstein. He is not just talented in painting and sketching but is
also very smart and curious when it comes to science. da Vinci has a lot
of theories and conclusions about anatomy not just in humans but also in
animals.

It’s so amazing how he derives correct conclusions based on his

observation and derives some unexpected inventions out of it such as
what he did on the birds and his belief that humans can also fly. His
science helps a lot in medical terms and he, as what we all know, is also
a great artists but on his time, I can say that his life is unfortunate that
Italy wasn’t able to discover how good he is in arts and science and that
all his works were appreciated just after he died till present.

On the other hand, opposite to da Vinci’s, Michelangelo Bounarotti’s

life is like a stairway of step by step success. When Michelangelo started
to pursue his dream of being a sculptor, his works were then appreciated
and became known right after. He has been a famous artist in his time
and Michelangelo himself was very proud of that. I am surprised that
just like da Vinci, Michelangelo also studied anatomy that I believe
helps him a lot in painting the naked bodies of his paintings in the
ceiling of the Sistine Chapel with all those very accurate body details.

Michelangelo is very amazing when in comes to risk taking and hard

work that he agreed to paint the Sistine Chapel’s ceiling though he does
not have a lot of experiences when it come to painting and the fact that
he would have to exert extra effort in looking upward at all time during
the said task and that he painted an artwork 68 feet from the ground.
Even though Michelangelo is a grumpy artist, his works will still show
how great he is.

Amorsolo, Hidalgo and Juan Luna
Question:
Looking into the artworks of Filipino artists, do you see them to be at
par with the great artists of the world? Why?
Answer:
Yes, upon looking into the artworks of our Filipino Artists Amorsolo,
Hidalgo and Juan Luna, I see them to be at par with the great artists of
the world because these three artists have been receiving praises and
became very popular with their artworks in different countries.

I believe everyone knows the great painting of Juan Luna, Spolarium.

This won three gold medals in Madrid. The La Pintura of Hidalgo also
won a silver medal in Madrid and got a bid of 78 million pesos or more
that $1,600,000 in an auction in Manila. Lastly, Fernando Amorsolo’s
Afternoon meal of the rice workers won first prize in New York.
These are enough proof that the artworks of our Filipino Artists are
competent or at par with the great artists of the world. Also, most of the
subjects of the artworks of our Filipino artists were not only about local
things but are also about sceneries and people in the foreign countries.
