Value
It is known that the optimal operation of the sintering
process is a function of pellet size distribution, material
bed thickness and feed-rate to the furnace. Therefore
automated monitoring of the pellet size distribution
enables better and easier control of the process and
ensures a more consistent quality of pellets. Optimal
operation will also have a positive effect on availability
and lifetime of the steel belt.

Functionality
The measuring system is based on a camera taking
pictures of the pellets dropping from the roller
feeder. The size is determined online by the machine
vision system algorithms. The measuring results are
displayed in an informative and easy to use graphical
user interface. The results are also available for the
DCS system through several communication methods.
The system has been designed to have good robustness
properties and it is delivered with easily replaceable
spare parts.
