Solar Power Projects

Solar Power projects are of immense importance for both Pakistan and India, because these two countries
are among the few countries with highest value of insolation in the world. These two countries have 8 to 9
hours of sunshine per day which are the ideal climatic conditions for the installation of the solar power
generation systems. In the last few year there has been a remarkable development of this solar technology in
these two countries to encounter the energy crisis and elevated pollution rate in both countries. Both
Pakistan and India are in continuous strive to eradicate the dependence on the Fossil Fuels for electricity
generation by incorporating solar technology. Let us compare the solar potential and the solar power projects
of both Pakistan and India.

Pakistan lies in the part of the world having greatest insulations. Pakistan receives 5.5 kW/m 2 on average.
World’s total Solar Potential is 300000 TWh/year. Whereas, estimated Solar Potential of Pakistan is
100000 MW. The Solar Potential up to 2.334 million MW can be obtained through the Solar PV systems
and Solar Thermal Systems. It now has been essential need of the country due to the prevailing energy crisis
of the country that government and private sector should venture this technology. Presently,Pakistan with
the aid of International Renewable Energy Agency (IREA),China and Private Sector are building solar
power plant in Baluchistan, Kashmir, Punjab and Sindh.
Pakistan has recently installed it’s biggest solar Park “Quaid−¿e−¿Azam Solar Park” in Bahawalpur
with a total final capacity of 1000 MW. And 2000 kW/m 2 of Solar Energy per year. The estimated cost of
the “Quaid−¿e−¿Azam Solar Park” is U.S 1.5 billion Dollars and the life span of this project is 25 years.
